  • Registered Users Posts: 4 concerned student

going over the questions that came up in the mocks also ..a lot of stuff that came up in my mocks came up in the actual exam so far.. people in my year seem to forgot that the people who made the mocks were trying to predict what will come up. good luck to everyone studying my tip for people in history are: an explorer during the explorations ...a revolutionary leader(could come up outside of america)....and a lord/lady of a manor
    but who knows.

    Q1) Picture A&B: Sec 1-10, Picture C: Sec 6-13

Q2) Documents: Always on Sec 6-13

Q3) Short Questions: Just study Sec 1-10 to get full marks

Q4) People in History: i)Archaeologist at work, ii)Lord/Lady in castle
iii) Settler received land in a plantation, iv) Leader in Revolution,
    v) Farm Labourer in Agricultural Revolution, vi) World War,
vii) Renaissance artist, viii)Mine or factory worker in Industrial Revolution
ix) Serf on a medieval manor, x)Knight in a castle.

Q5) Sources: Always on Sec 6-10

Q6) Long Questions: Just study 11-13. But I would prefer studying Sec 1-10 and Sec 13 (for they are always easy)

    One more thing!:)
Just read Revise vise or Less stress more success (if you have it) for full marks in Sec 11-12 ( Ireland 1900-2007, International relations).

    It's Just Predictions!!!! Study hard!!;)

I'm fairly sure a renaissance artist is going to come up so I'd highly recommend learning Da Vinci and Albrecht Durer, incase you get a named renaissance artist outside Italy.

Don't rely too heavily on others make a judgement of your own.

I've just moved down to Ordinary Level (OL) History. I've never looked at an OL paper in my life and I am not familiar with the People in History questions that come up. What are the most often that come up and any predictions?

I'm guessing the short questions are the same or quite similar to the Higher Level short questions so I'll probably be okay with those...

When it says lord/lady of a castle do you have to know both or can you write about a lord?

Say you choose the write on the lord, are there still marks going for points about the Lady. eg. My wife is called the lady. She does.... She also enjoys...

Does anyone know how much to write for a :
    12 mark account (Q6)
    14 mark account (Q5) } taken from 2003 paper
    20 mark account (Q4)

    For 10-14 marks I'd say 1 A4 page maybe a page and a half.
For 20 marks deffinitely two A4 pages.

Would you guys agree or anything?
    Thanks :3

    I really hope I don't get screwed for Q.4.

I think if I study Social Change in 20th Century Ireland I should be fine for Q.6.

Should I learn two Cold War crises?

We were told to focus in on one so I only really know the Blockade but I think that there were years that said Korean War or Cuban Missile Crisis but not the Blockade!

Should I bother to go over the Korean War or is there no point?

Just a quick question. When it asks for a RENAISSANCE PAINTER (ie. non place specific) can you do the one outside of Italy (ie. Bruegel) and still get full marks, I find it much easier than DaVinci.

Although, I do know both, just remembering all the details from Bruegel is easier than DaVinci I find.

    Thanks

Yup if they don't mention inside/outside specifically, then you're grand (as was the case in the mocks)...but I personally struggle to get facts on bruegel, as my book doesn't cover him in much detail, so I'd stick with DaVinci

Oh and here's a nice resource I came across, learn all this & a few people in history accounts and you've got yourself an A! :D

    http://www.stkevinscollege.com/juniorCertHistory.html

Edit: oh and for people in history, 1 is almost always a named person, and the other is just a normal person, so make sure you have a mix of both studied

Here's a list of all possible people in histories, along with the number of times they each came up. Personally, I really thing archaeologist is coming up, ;)

    (1)An archaeologist on a dig(2)

(2)A person living in ancient ireland(2)

(3)A monk in an early christian monastery(4)

(4)A person living in an ancient civilisation outside ireland(3)

(5)The lord or lady of a medeival castle(2)

(6)A named renaissance artist from OUTSIDE italy(1)

(7)A named renaissance artist from italy(1)

(8)A named leader on a voyage during the age of exploration(2)

(9)A named religious reformer at the time of the reformation(2)

(10)A settler who received land during a named plantation(4)

    (11)A named leader involved in a revolution(america,france or ireland)(1)

(12)A farm labourer during the agricultural revolution(2)

(13)A mine or factory worker during the industrial revolution(2)

(14)A British or american soldier Who took part in D-Day(1)

(15)A person living in britain during the blitz(0)

(16)A person living in ireland during the emergency(1)

(17)A named leader in the struggle for Irish indpendence 1900-1923(2)

So what ones do you think will come up? Id say " A lord or lady of a medieval castle" or " a settler who received land during a named plantation "

Yup I think you're good with them,

For unnamed people go for archaeologist, lord/lady & a settler (possibly a monk too)

For named, go for Renaissance artist (leonardo), Explorations voyager (columbus) and whoever else you want.

One that was not mention however, was a named leader during the rise of the superpowers, if you learn kennedy, you can talk about the cuban missile crisis, so in a way, you're hitting 2 birds with 1 stone, :D
