Cruise ships on the Waterford Estuary

Just went to see the latest cruise ship sail down the estuary. What a sight to behold. I wonder will any more ships pay a vist to the city this year? The place could do with a boost from tourism. I'm surprised the estuary is not used more like this if I am honest. It is a great amenity and after the success of the Tall Ships last year, it has been proven the harbour can cope with the large vessels.

Yea, we could do with a load of tourists coming in, to give the local hotels the chance of quadrupling their prices like they did last year to make absolutely sure that the tourists get the impression that we're an expensive place and won't ever come back.

Now now! The Tall Ships race was the prefect opportunity for price gouging and it was taken.

    Here's a nice boat

As far as I know that dock had a lot of work done to it before the tall ships so it could accomadate the cruise liners.
We should be seeing a lot more of these kinds of ships in the city.

How about this old style one from a few years ago.
Taken when she was at anchor in Dunmore East. A real beauty in my opinion.

pity we dont have decent facilities for a couple ships to moor over there.
    • gangways
    • easy access to city by walking
    • make that area look nicer
    • other facilities over there

i think the next thing on the agenda should be this cobh has facilities like this and attracts the larger liners

The main difficulty trying to copy Cobh's success is the depth of the river in the city. The Frank Cassin wharf and even Bellview are to shallow for the biggest liners. In fairness WCC are very active in trying to attract liners to the city and the number is up on previous years.

It would be nice to see the North quay tidied up though, but as there is no sign of development probably not going to happen any time soon.

A man was at a dinner party, and being a keen photographer was showing the hostess some recent shots he'd taken.

"Wow," she said, "What camera are you using?".

    The man ignored the question.

The meal was served a while later. The man took a mouthful and said to the hostess: "That's lovely, what cooker are you using?".

very disappointed 7 year old here with the lack of the Marina. Huge obsession with aircraft and cruise ships. I presume the weather delayed things
