Pretty sure i got in and around 11.48 or so for that.....overall happy enough apart from the centre of enlargement question....how did you calculate o to b?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,249 ✭✭✭Bears and Vodka

this makes me questin my answer because i got 9.85 =/

FG is almost definitely 12.5m. and the scale factor is 1.25

If it was the distance of the line on the bottom, you had to use cosine rule to get it...i named the line x and used the 8,9 and 60dg angle. If it was the line going from top to bottom and the very end, you had to find the scale factor of enlargement and go on from there

DAMN ! I took some arseways route with that question and got roughly 34m from O to B. It's definitely wrong but I think it's not too far off.

For the car question, did anyone else say that there were more cars sold in January because people wanted the new year number on their plate? Did any of you guys estimate that the 2012 annual total would be around 77,000?

Yeah, I said people waned " a newer car for longer" if you know what I mean.
And for the annual total for 2012 I got about 79000 or 80000.

How did everyone else do that part?
I got the January figures from 2011 and found that it was about 45%. I then got the figures for Q1 2012 and divided by 45 and multiplied by 100.
So basically, I took the Q1 2012 figures as 45%.

I also did exactly that. And I said that people tend to wait till the New Year to buy cars because they want to have the new year on the registration plates.

Also, guys do you think it's alright that I calculated the Simpsons Rule question taking squares to be 'units' rather than 5mm or whatever? So my final answer was in units^2

I got 12 for the side of the last triangle. But the restriction was referring to the height of the bridge from the horizon which involves drawing a new triangle, with one angle of 90 degrees. So you can use sin =o/h then to find the length of the bridge from the horizon. Can remember my answer but I think it was compliant with the restriction not sure though. Would have to see the question again.

    Thats what I did anyway.

Did you get the formula to be something like 3/20(0+0+2(30+40)+4(50+35)
I know it wasnt exactly that but my first and last height was 0, did anyone else get that?

    Didn't get a few:
    the parallelogram question
part (ii) and (iii) of the final, Area and Volume, question
the O to B part in the Trigonometry question
the one that asked what a scalene triangle was

and a few more I think

So basically, I took the Q1 2012 figures as 45%.

I found the % decrease from each quartile in each year and then got the average of those percentages and then used those averages on the 2012 figure.

    Such an easy paper. :)
Apart from rushing the end cos' I thought we had more time, I think it went really well.
    Confident of passing. :)
