Been looking at secondary jobs on educationposts. There seems to be some permanent posts advertised, are these worth applying for or do you think they are already ear marked for existing staff in the school?

There is no such thing as walking straight in to a permanent job in second level. You are on a year to year contract until you build up a CID/Permanent contract.
Most likely, there is someone in the job but the school must leagaly advertise it before that person can be made permanent.
You have nothing to lose by applying though.

I have a feeling when a school is placing an ad theres a job type section and its a drop down menu picking which type of job it is. I may be a bit cynical but I wouldn't be surprised if the person putting the ad up doesn't really know how it works so might just be picking permanent for the sake of it.

Friend of a friend was subbing in a school for almost the full year and when the same position was advertised during the summer everyone taut shed walk in and have the job... She was on holidays... She missed the deadline... A job is not gone until its gone!! Theres no harm in applying :)

I would tend to agree, I saw a job on it which was advertised as permanent but only has 15 hours when you click through.

Could make for an interesting case if some one was appointed to a 22hour position advertised thus and it wasn't spelt out that the job isn't permanent!
