Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Didn't the Italian manager say if there was racial abuse directed towards Balotelli they would all walk off the pitch?

Have to say, I wouldn't be shocked if Italy won it. Have a great balance and with the likes of Di Natale and Giovinco off the bench they should be feared by all.

Worrying how comfortable Italy are having it today considering what Croatia did to us.

I think this confirms a real divide between ITA&SPA and IRL&CRO if anyone needed such.

You just knew Pirlo was gonna put that away, beautiful free kick. Italy are much the better side.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,052 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Jesus Pirlo, what a fuckin' player. Absolutely owning this game in every respect.

Against Italy I'd nearly have an extra man in midfield to just man mark him.

But Italy actually want to get on the ball and do something, huge difference

Jelavic gave the ball away poorly in the lead up to that free-kick.

I think that seemed like the quickest 45mins of the tournament so far.

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,594 ✭✭✭✭antodeco

no it isn't because we will be relying on Spain to LOSE vs. Croatia. Spain ''will 'have to'' win to qualify which they surely will do.

Ok, so assuming we get the results we want (Draw vs Spain and win vs Italy), we will then be on 4 points.

If Italy win today, they will also be on 4 points, but we go ahead of them on head to head

If Croatia win today, it puts them on 6. That means *if* they lose the last game to Spain, Spain will be on 5, above us, so both of those teams go through.

If Croatia with today, and draw/beat spain, they still go through, and Spain will then be on either 3 or 2 points, meaning we would go through. But as said, Spain will NEED to win, so not the best option.

If Italy/Croatia draw, Italy will finish on 2 points, so they are out. Croatia will have at least 4 points, but ahead of us on head to head.

Am I correct on the above?

Bingo, and in the last case, we'd need Spain to not win. If Spain draw on the last day, and Italy V Croatia is a draw, then with our draw and win, we'd go through. But I really see Spain beating Croatia regardless.

If we draw later, anything other than a Croatia win today means we at least have a chance on the last day.

This head to head thing really is strange. How come they dont go by GD in this?

Croatia have been pretty anonymous so far.

Pirlo is magnificent and I've been very impressed with Marchisio today.

Am I right in saying that's the first goal directly scored from a FK/Pen in the competition so far?

With his confidence teetering, I hope we're very...physical... with him right from the off, take his mind off the game a bit.

He's been looking sharp for getting into scoring positions, but at least we have the benefit that he's not been too clinical.
