Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Paul's Boutique - From tack to class?

So I used to always see girls walking around with Paul's Boutique bags and I always HATED them. I thought they were way too tacky and in your face, a bit like Juicy Couture which I never saw the appeal of, but recently I ended up in BT2 and actually liked the bags PB have out at the moment. They seemed to have moved away from the big "I'm a PB bag" signs and become a lot more classier and I for one am glad. I even went as far as buying a bag and purse!!!

Now there are still some of the bags that are a bit too tacky for me but on the whole I am quite impressed with PB's improvements. I still won't wear those awful jackets though!

Is it just me or was PB always like this and I just somehow missed it?!

I totally agree, the PB bags I used to see around college were horribly brash. They looked like something you'd pick up in Penneys, not something you'd drop 80euro for in Brown Thomas.

The plainer bags are actually lovely, I might get one for my 21st birthday; something like this:

The clothes still leave a lot to be desired IMO, but they might improve with time.

Thats exactly it! They just looked so cheap but they seemed to have moved away from the in your face style and are more plain these days which is perfect. Those I <3 PB badges were awful!

Ha, i don't even look at the clothes! We'll let them work on that!

I'm sure it's the Burberry effect, no high end label wants their brand associated with the tacky/cheap look do they?

I still think they look cheap, something about them. Even the name...

I don't know, Juicy Couture seem quite content to stay that way!

Although I have no problem with the Burberry effect if it means nicer bags! Not that I can normally ever afford them!

I've seen PB bags in Topshop and BT2 and to be honest, they are awful looking things.

This one hit me before I even got near it, bright, tacky, cheap looking thing.

I've never, ever been fan or seen the attraction about bags that have brands printed on the front of them, likewise, I've never seen the need to pay a couple of hundreds or even more than fifty euros for a bag, but then, I prefer cheaper bags because I know when they eventually get wrecked I won't mind because I haven't spent a small packet on them.

Those are the ones that I'm talking about! They're hideous! Why would you want something so garish?! And that goes for any bag with the brand on show so in your face like that.

But the new bags are an awful lot more subtle with only a little plaque to show the brand (it could do without it but is better) and also much better designs and less ridiculous colours.

I'm also the same in that is never spend more than about €20/€30 on a bag normally but I got a BTs voucher for my birthday and you can't get much for money in there! Though the bags weren't too bad at €75. I say too, bit I'd probably only ever spend that kind of money with a voucher and if I could find nothing cheaper!

I think Guess are particularly guilty of this too. They always have a massive brand emblazoned on their handbags, which really puts me off.

    What's wrong with Penneys? :(

There's nothing wrong with Penneys - we all get great bits and pieces in there - but they definitely have their tack too.

The first time I saw a PB jacket I had never hear of them. It was one of those quilted jackets in red with a massive "I heart PB" logo on the back. It looks exactly like something you'd pick up in Penneys for €15.

I genuinely though it was a new gimmick from Penneys to pick up on the way people call it "Penney's Best".

I was shocked to discover it was actually a designer jacket costing a fortune!

I have the pink version of the Paul's Boutique bag The Lovely Muffin posted and I love it! Oh except mine has gold piping and gold handles, super classy right? ...right?

I got it as an 18th birthday present from my Sister, before everyone and their granny had them.I actually didn't realise it was a designer bag until she very un-subtly mentioned how much it cost. I was like  I assumed it was from Penneys or something!

I normally hate bags with logos on them but it's so over the top I just love it. The charm is deadly too, I take it off and use it on a plainer bag though. I don't use it that often now because too many people have them. I can't wait for them to go out of style

The clothes are gack though, I always lol seeing the cheap nasty tracksuits. Why would you spend so much money to look cheap?

The jackets are awful too; if I wanted an expensive quilted jacket (which I don't anyway), I'd buy a barbour one, not a PB one with a big white circle on the back.

I can only see the garish PB bags appealing to young teens tbh. Like Guess bags, they are so tacky for what you pay for them. But I do agree with MCR, that their plainer bags are actually quite nice, and not too expensive at that.
