What on earth was Ward trying to do?

    Clearance? Passback?

God the softness of the goals.

Doing it all campaign. Just that Croatia have decided to be clinical in front of goal.

Ireland are terrible showing how bad they are! No midfield, Whelan is shocking! Keane is he playing?

I hate it as we go one goal down that posters come on here saying how crap we are.

Ireland reacted well to going one down and got an equaliser and are by no means out of the game.

    Talk about supporting your team.

It's a myth that we are a good defensive side.

The only other real decent side we've face competitively in the last two years was Russia and they made bits of us on both occasions. And here we have Croatia...

We are like a very poor League of Ireland team. Can't hold onto the ball or string a few passes together. This could be a very embarrassing competition for us. What's wrong when we could go to Paris and make France look poor but have no belief here ?

I am behind the team but not Trapattoni.

Poor throughout. Ward made a huge error. McGeady not in the game. Keane can hardly get a sniff. I would throw on Walters for Keane as he just ain't getting into this game. Walters would hold up the ball which is what we need.

It would be head in the sand stuff not to mention the softness of the goals.

Our style of play does not surprise me - the only unknown was how well our tactics of living on the edge would work against better teams.

Sadly, Croatia haven't even had to carve us up to get two goals.

Well there's no doubt Ireland are a weak team. This game (along with the past couple of years) has shown that. They were fortunate teams were terrible in front of goal during the qualifying campaign.

You can support your team but you can also be realistic about what's going on.

That's why I put in 'supposedly'. Italy did today with 5 what we can't even manage with 8.

****in foolish from Ward but weve reverted back to the usual defensive, hoofing ****e last 15 mins. Ridiculous mistakes after a vg goal for Ireland

Being found out for letting teams walk up to our box unchallenged. Hope we can rouse ourselves for another comeback

In fairness how can you expect our main striker to be influential when the ball hasn't even crossed the half way line? Traps system being exposed as highly flawed tonight. Way too much space afforded. Croatia aren't anything fantastic which is even more frustrating.

they need to be a little more open get the ball down and play a little every ball they touch they try and lump it up field which nearly always is taken by the other side why isnt this obvious god knows what the problem with the defence is

I'd sat the same listers are one hundred percent behind the team. Just being realistic with their few on the first half.

Lot of very harsh comments here, Ireland doing well against a good side tbh, not a whole lot in it. Evey team I've see so far has suffered from some form of nervy opening and I thought we did well to claw back a goal from a nightmare start.

Why can't we put three passes together in this game ?
We are much better than this but playing very poorly and lacking in confidence. There has to be some reason.

I think a lot of people are saying they're crap or just generally disappointed because they were too terrible goals to concede... the header from 16 yards bouncing in and then that calamity

yes we did react the first time around but if we were half way competent defending the two goals we could potentially be 1-0 up rather than 2-1 down

hopefully we can go out now and react well again but we sure as **** aren't making it easy on ourselves

Devastating. Two soft goals. Hopefully we can nick another one.

According to the lads in the toilet in the pub Keane, Duff and McGeady are ****e. Let's hope they're talking nonsense

They're not really. They've just conceded two goals that you probably never should at this level. Give 10 or 15 of those to Spain next week and see what happens (provided Torres isn't playing of course).

we havent been that bad but weve been sitting back too much and giving them too much time on the ball. the usual hoofing the ball down the wings hoping doyle manages to get on the end of it to hold it up.

were far from out of it but we need to change tack

both goals felt like unexpected sucker punches where the defense and Given looked very confused. We also retreated into our defensive shell after scoring and tbh invented the croatians onto us leading to the 2nd goal. We showed when chasing the game that this Croat team can be got at however. Doyle was a nightmare at times for Corluka and from set pieces we have looked dangerous. Not much threat coming from our wings atm hopefully that will change, If there is the cnace of him getting a red later I wouldnt be shocked to see Gibson replaced Andrews and be more of an attacking option from midfield but its that very same midfield thats giving Modric far too much space.

Still dont know how I didnt wake the missus when St Ledger scored, had an internalyes you fcuking beauty moment.

On a positive note, very impressed with Doyle so far.

I don't mind losing to a better side. I mind the fact that the two goals we gave away were utterly out of character for us, and below the performance levels of our defence and keepie.

That's what's so frustrating. Croatia aren't playing us off the park, we're just gifting it to them.

Need to get on our foot on the ball. Would be keen for Gibbo to come on for Andrews and Walters for Keane or Duff.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,988 ✭✭✭SirDelboy18

The passing was bad, our defense is all over the place, we are allowing them too much time on the ball. We may as well line up along Given's goal because we are so deep.

We need to buck up our ideas and fast. If we produce this performance against Spain and Italy we will concede 5 or 6 in both games.

It's not green blinkers. 2 set "strange" goals from Croatia.....and we're still in this game.

We qualified ffs.........we're not 1970 Brazil but we're not as bad as mad out here.

It's only half-time as well. Like saying that The Netherlands are crap yesterday for losing.

Ireland suffering from all the things that dogged the team during qfying. The scoreline is not surprising but two soft goals for Croatia.

They should have had more for all the domination they had. Wake up. We have been all over the place bar a 5-10 minute spell.

Not out of character in terms of letting a chance like that come about. It happened throughout the campaign and it's really no surprise that the goals are now being conceded. Rode their luck for far too long imo.

Still not totally out of this game but I'm struggling to see Croatia throwing it away.

First half was ****e, but I think we can get at them. Subs are needed though. I think Walters is the guy for a game like this.

murpho999 - Netherlands haven't been for years. Ireland have been playing pretty crap football for years and it's showing.

Yeah but the argument always was that we've qualified for a major tournament for the first time in 10 years, Trap is doing a fantastic job, we're not Barcelona and the naysayers should shut up and try to enjoy being rubbish. Keep drinking.

Am I right in saying that Ward assisted for both Croatian goals? Looked to get a touch to set up the first too...

Best we can hope for now I reckon is our usual approach of holding it til 75 and then giving it all for an equaliser.

Fair point but i just wish that for once we'd take the game to them for a change. the french side from 2009 were better than them (albeit managed by Raymond the astrologist)
