I suppose every social media site is going to have some groups using it to market them selves, or to use it for dodgy, in in this case, ilegal practises.

Considering the huge number of groups on facebook, this is a very small minority, and by the sounds of things FB have dealt with it.

As for the 20,000 followers, FB have actully lowered the age at which you can join, its posible that some of these followers have joined niavely or inocently, pedobear also has a bit of cult following and has even appeared on this site, both as a username, pictures, and also I think in a sig. Are you going to deactivate your account here as a result?

OP, you should read up on Pedobear here and here. The whole purpose of it is to mock pedophiles rather than glamorize it.

Regardless of how funny you or I think of it, it was set up as a joke. Humour is there to find the line, and often to cross it deliberately. The pertinent point in this thread is that it isn't a ring of pedos, but a joke. We can debate the humour or anything related after that, but it definitely is set up to be a joke.

It should be said that the source of this is also where the group Anonymous originated from, who are also the group responsible for taking down one of the largest actual online child pornography rings.

As far as I know though, the Pedobear logo does not promote peodophilia, but more mocks those invloved in it.

Again though, you have said you wont join FB because of this, so again, would you leave boards because he has popped up here.

Personally, I dont think Pedobear is very funny, but I dont think peodofiles, as stupid, sick, and twisted as they are, are stupid enough to use him as their logo.

Again though, the actual seriousness of the thing is being diminished by idiots and their memes. There has in fact been a number of cases where groups have been found to be sharing images of and links to child porn. Thousands of images have had to be removed from Facebook after it became apparent that it was been used by pedophile rings.

As for the stupid meme itself. Not everyone is aware of it, and they shouldn't necessarily be deemed to be stupid just because they react unfavorably to it. It's not exactly comedy gold like.. imo anyway =p
