    Hi all,

Been out of this game a long time now (years) and just started a new team on a wim (sp?)

A lot has changed from gameplay etc., but some old issues / mistakes have come up.

At the begining I hired a youth manager, coach and scout and paid for a level 2 academy.

Having made some very decent signings and reduced squad numbers dramatically, I'm running at a defecit equivalent to maintanence and wages for my youth set up.

Is there any point in investing in youth so early in the game (first season)?

Should I just focus on the senior team for the first couple of seasons and then youth when I can afford it? I think I've tried to spread my money out evenly rather than prioritising. :(

Cheers for advice, and any other advice you might want to throw in for beginers is welcome.

I'm in 4 seasons now and still have level 1 everything at youth level, I prioritised signing ready made players in order to be competitive straight away, then got all lvl 4 coaches and facilities for my senior squad. Then I expanded my stadium to bring in a profit of 135k per home match...

I just advertised for a level 2 youth scout, and next season I'll get 1 or 2 more youth related staff members...

This way is in no way the right way! But it has me competitive in div3 after 4 seasons with an average squad age of 21-22!

Personally I invested in the YA right from the get go, and view it as wasted money. If I was starting out again I would use that money to invest in decent Div III players and stadium expansion to fund YA later. focus on training players initially that you buy.

The old startout plan works well still despite game changes, that is buy 17year with good non trainables and train them to a decent level - for DIV III/IV i'd say around 40-50K and they will be ready to go (and be your best players!) rinse and repeat for 3 guys at a time. Next season and from about now on will be good time to pick up 17year olds cheaper. start of this season they were inflated with it being an u20 eligible year. but too late in season now for players to have a chance to make the U20's in four years compared to lads trained from round 1.

*Mod hat on - welcome back to the game!! if you could introduce yourself in the thread people will know you and your team and also more chance of friendlies. In addition there is a friendlies thread where people post for friendlies. next season throw your name in the hat for boards league, always one or two moving in and out. you'll begin in lower league against newer teams so should be competitive from the start. any questions about match engine or so on throw into the Q&A thread stickied at the top, have a scan through last few pages also as the older stuff probably is not fully up to date. Finally any questions everyone here is very helpful and will help in anyway they can

Yeah I'd say get the team up and running before looking at the YA.

If I was starting again, I'd sign mostly young (<24) and focus on getting good players for each positions. I'd also get two 17 year olds and stick them on fairly intensive training. After that just focus on untrainables such as height and weight.

what id suggest for new manager is to just get the scout to lvl3 as fast as possible, leave the rest alone till you can afford them and by then youll have 200-500 stars id say. then buy in three 17yrolds and split the seasons between them untill youll get lvl 3s by then itll be 2 seasons of 7-9 seasons so theyll be 40kcsr and long term starters for your team.

then repeat with 3 more players(for fun you could have some of them eligible for the u20s, zim u20s of coarse:p)

buy cheap guys under26 to fill the other positions you should be able to get a good team for div4 30kcsrish for between 300-500k. just set a price for every player you see and dont be afraid to walk away theres plenty players out there

I can't remember what I did, but back then the YA setup was quite different, without the modular option.

If you're in Div IV, well any decently managed side should be able to thrive. Bots will never beat you and many human managers don't really care.

Decide if you want a strong all-round team in the future or a few star players, that'll influence how you buy and train your players.

I went for a load of 17 year olds with good non-trainables. They weren't amazing players to begin with, but you don't really need anything that amazing in Div IV. Train all the 17 year olds and play them in a load of games, and your whole team will rise gradually.

Grab some older players and three decent U-17s as the lads suggested, and you can focus on training the three guys and watch them grow into beasts.

Might also be an idea to get a level 3 scout and get in a few big star youth players, if you want home grown heroes. If I recall correctly, the coach and manager aren't worth the money.

The manager seems completely pointless to me now. As they now have it so that your new youth player is recruited with a birthday in the week before the current date it is very unlikely that a manger will need to decide between players to pull and will only have one player to promote in any given week anyway.

The YA training was tweaked (increased) this season so it might now be worthwhile but it's too early to say. It previously wasn't worth the money but have no idea now.

Using a scout is a good call. Imo using about 30 stars on a player is around the optimum level.

I wouldn't bother yet with Youth Academy and Youth Trainers.

First things first, cut your squad down to 23 - that should save you a decent few bob. I would just fire these players, unfortunately as a new team your players suck big time so don't waste your time;)

The Devs tend to give new teams some decent youth players so over the next few weeks pull the better guys and slot them straight into your squad (if you give me your team name I can search and detail your top CSR youths)

Organise your team, use a tool like http://brmanager.go1.cc/V3/index.php?lang_menu=ko#tableau (It will help you select your players in their best position)

Be prudent on the TM, as a Div 4 team you can pick up players that will do the job to win Div 4 and over time keep you in Div 3. For example, this guy is just about to be bought on the TM for 10k - he is young and can do a great job covering a number of back positions for a newb team
