    Dia Duit Folks,

I am a member of Wet & Wild, an LGTB outdoors activities group, some of us plan to kayak from Donaghadee, Co Down to Port Logan, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland and back in July 21st .

We have been out on the sea training since January; it’s been cold but enjoyable. We have been using river kayaks as we do not have access to any sea kayaks. This has been good endurance training as river kayaks are not ideal for sea conditions and take more effort to control.

The planed crossing of the Irish Sea/North Channel will have to be done in sea kayaks and this is where our problems start. We as a group do not get any funding and so all expenses are paid by each member. None of the team can afford their own sea kayak so we are trying other means but no company will rent us kayaks; the fact that we are technically leaving the country with their property does not reassure them!

Fundraising was an option but we all thought that hungry kids are more worthy than kayaking Marys and so we won’t try to compete.

We are prepared to rent kayaks but at this stage our only option is for individuals to rent them to us, we will pay rent and deposits for any kayak. Please get back to me if you have a kayak that is doing nothing in late July and you would like to make it earn it's keep.
    Go raibh mhaith agat

Try a sea kayaking tour/ training company. There are a number around the country.

Where are you getting the kayaks that your training in?
Considering the amount of training you need to be doing your bound to build up a relationship with whom ever. Can they help? You will need to go training in the actual boats your goin to use.

The sea kayak assoc message board is definitely the way to go.
