I have no problem with ruining anybody's life. I've already reported 20 of my classmates and they're all banned from sitting state exams for 5 years. Do I care? Not at all. I lack any morality or sentiment. Next time they'll know better to compete with me in any examination. Suckers.

That's nothing reznov. I reported all of my classmates, even those that weren't cheating. Gotta stay ahead you know. Poor form man, I expected more from you. :P

Don't see the point in reporting someone for cheating. What proof is there? You can't just email the SEC saying 'such and such was cheating, I saw him, take my word for it!'. There's absolutely no evidence to back up such a claim, and even with an investigation there's not really a means for them to catch someone out after the cheating has occurred. The SEC can't just hand out 6 year bans and cancel people's exams on the word of an anonymous email.

The other method of personally reporting it would be similarly pointless but would also give you a reputation as a rat.

I agree. The examiners really need to do their job. If a student sends off an email to the SEC, the best they can do is carry out an inspection of that exam centre and scrutinise the paper's of the person accused to see if there are any obvious discrepancies.

If a student outright reports to the examiner and is found out for snitching, then he/she'll have to live with potentially being ostracised from the local community of their age (or potentially even broader, I doubt the parents of the accused would be too pleased) for a very long time.

The onus of reporting cheating cannot fall on the students sitting the exam. It's already a stressful enough time. If I were a student and people were blatantly cheating in my exam centre under the supervisor's nose, I'd report the supervisor before I'd report the cheaters.

What are the consequences of being caught, anyway?

I hears that you can't do any state exams for a looong time.
I'd rather spend another year at school and repeat that be disqualified for 5 years or something.

there's this guy I hate who's bragging about cheating in my school and it would make me so ****ing happy to rat him out. Someone tell me what's the correct procedure for doing this and how they verify it.

I compiled a little list of individuals who's life I wanted to ruin, and luckily the SEC has provided me with an opportunity to do so. Not my fault they decided to beat me in the junior cert CSPE.

I'd cut their "throat in the church", as Laertes announced!

Thank God CSPE isn't a leaving cert subject, I would hate having to study 5+ hours every day again for that, the amount of work that went into learning the presidents face and name off by heart for the dreaded and challenging picture section.

    A like on facebook:
CSPE was very hard this year lads..
Q1. (a) Who issues the age card?
    (b) Apart from issuing the age card, what other type of work do An Garda Siochana
    do?

I took about 10 hours before the exam to redraw the faces of all of the UN ministers from memory just in case one of them showed up in the exam. Alongside this initiative, I took to the streets to interview various consumers to discover their opinions regarding global affairs.

    Jokes aside...

    I got a B in CSPE. A ****ing B.

Same as, some people just don't understand the effort that is required to get that coveted A in CSPE. I stayed up the entire night before, browsing the internet for pictures of the faces of all the UN ministers as well as every Irish politician. The thought of the SEC trying to throw us off with a side picture of Brian Cowan was terrifying.

    I thought that was disgraceful...
Think that's what brought me down to a D.
After further calculations, I spent approximately 9000 hours on CSPE. Maybe Over 9000.

Ahh 9000 hours? I see, getting even a C in CSPE requires much more time than that Reznov. I received a C, but I studied for at least 120000 hours and even that was pushing it. In addition, I had to sacrifice all of my other subjects as I felt they were taking up valuable UN leader face revision.

CSPE is not just a subject, it's a life skill which gives you the ability to recognise politicians faces from both front and side view. A skill which is vital in almost any line of work.

I'm doing my LC this year. The amount of people who go in and out to the toilets during the language exams (Irish & French) is unreal compared to other exams. It's so obvious what they're doing.. presumably going to use Google Translate on their phones. Of course, I have no proof of this and nobody has actually admitted doing it, so it's not as if I can report it. But I'm using common sense! Although obviously the supervisors can't go accusing people just for going to the toilet. Security needs to be upped for these exams. Frisk pockets, socks, etc. on the way in. Nothing too personal obviously but that would at least bring down the number of people who bring phones in their pockets to use them in the toilet.

Also, I agree with people saying there's not a whole lot of point reporting those who cheat as there is a lack of proof. HOWEVER, there is a MAJOR point in reporting it on the day of the exam. If you know somebody is cheating, tell the supervisor! Then he/she can see if there is essays hidden in toilet bins or whatever else.

Cheating is so easily done. I'm even surprised that there are some people who don't do it, considering how easily done it is! I haven't cheated in mine because I just hate dishonesty but if I wanted to, I could've done it no bother. They just need to get stricter about these things.

Well I mean in some cases it may be blatantly obvious. For example a lad in my year leaves twice every exam. Sometimes near enough the beginning as well. I'd say if they viewed his scripts they'd find a spike of knowledge around the time he leaves :p Hopefully the examiners caught on

I know I could never cheat. I've left to go to the toilet twice during these exams, once on Monday and once on Tuesday and I felt a bit paranoid when I realised I'd gone at the exact same time both days :pac: Thought the supervisor might be on to me! If I'm that bad when I've done nothing, I can't imagine how bad I'd be if I actually cheated!

I've gone about twice too, and the first time was during English Paper 2 (worst exam to take a break in, but anyway). I literally couldn't afford to not start writing as fast as I could as soon as I sat down again, I was so pushed for time, but then I was like jaysus that looks so suspicious. :pac:

Even when you're escorted into the toilet by the 5th year sitting outside, all you have to do is go into a cubicle and close the door. Ever if you're rustling or making any suspicious noise the guy can't do anything about it.

The examiner literally has to witness you cheat which is ridiculous because anyone bothered to cheat will have worked out a sly way of doing it!

I haven't gone to toilet in any exams, so I'm not 100% on this, but I heard that the 4th year doesn't even go into the actual toilet. Probably just our school.

I dont think that they're allowed to go in.They have to wait outside the door. They are kind of pointless realy.

Haha I was dying during English Paper 2 but couldn't go because I knew I wouldn't be able to make up the time :P

But yeah, the attendant in my school just stands outside the door of the actual bathroom itself. Doesn't even wait outside the cubicle. I could be doing anything in there!

I guess in a way, it would be like setting up cameras in toilets, but still.

I was dying for the loo during French. :o Finished with ten seconds to spare and went to have a chat with a couple of people to see how it went for them. Next thing I knew I was sitting down waiting for the supervisor to start the tape, there was no going back then.

I was so misguided... I was following a guideline I read online and based on my CSPE teacher's opinion. He reassured me I was the brightest fellow - his best CSPE student since its inception.

Couldn't face my mam when I failed everything including CSPE.

That guideline was probably a trap, a cunning fake website designed to fool people thus hindering their chances in CSPE. As for your teacher, he was probably in on it too. CSPE teachers don't study Politicians faces for 12 years in college for nothing. He was probably concerned you'd become better at the join the dots section of the CSPE paper than him.

When it comes to CSPE, trust nobody. The desire to even pass the subject outweighs the moral conscience of the most noble of men.
