They got this sensation of something was crawling under their skin and in their ear and stuff, they ended up cutting themselves open to get rid of what they felt was under their skin. One guy had cut the side of his face open with a pair of scissors. Another girl had cut into her ear and basically they all ended up in AnE after mutilating themselves. And its effect apparently went on for days...

You could accidentally click a link, that you really really shouldnt and your ip get logged or some crazy thing. Sounds like Snowballs, iirc. ****ing mental things as they were being sold as yokes and people were treating them as such.

Although they weren't legal highs - your story seems to be a bit of a mish-mash of several different stories.

I could not watch a film like that not to think I could watch something real. It must be the worst thing.

These guys were jumping off this bridge overlooking this pier thing into the sea. The first guy jumps off and clears the pier and lands safely in the water. The second guy as he's jumping, slips and ends heading face first towards the pier. On the edge of the pier there was this bit iron sticking out, the world's most unlucky guy's face lands straight on the iron bit and as a result it splits his face right through the middle from forehead through chin. He's then rescued by his mate as he's lying in the sea face down in a pool of his blood. The video then switches to a shot in the AnE. The doctors are completely baffled and don't know what they can do.

They've intubated him, which is another horrific sight as he doesn't seem to have much of a mouth or nose left, but he's still alive and is in quite a miserable situation while the AnE doc tries to hold his face together. And that's pretty much all there is. You just feel extremely horrible wondering what the poor sod must have gone though... Its more sad than anything else.

Story is the guy died a couple of hours later in the ICU due to internal bleeding. Maybe the world's best maxillo-facial surgeon could have had fixed him, but it was very unlikely he would have survived that in Lebanon.

Its one of the funny situations where the "safety structures" of the body sort of work against you. The whole mouth and nose acts as a "crash structure" for the head so the mouth and nasal cavity takes the blow and protects your brain. Its sorta what happened to him. The guy didn't die instantly because his face took the brunt of the damage and as a result had to end up bearing through the pain of having your face split open...

The guy was telling us about the incident as an example of how the people who make "legal highs" basically slightly alter the chemical structures of known drugs which are catalogued as illegal, so that they can bring it in as a new drug which is not illegal as its no yet catalogued as illegal and the guys who catalogue such drugs (which the guy giving us the lecture was a part of), they have to constantly keep playing "catch up" as people who make those drugs keep modifying the chemical composition of the illegal drugs and introducing them as "new" legal drugs into the market.

Ok, I did end up getting curious myself and digged out the lecture...

Aaaand you were right, it was Snowball! or Dimethoxy Bromomethamphetamine...
Its like MDMA but more potent, has slower onset and has longer duration.

It did first show up as a legal drug but was quickly banned because it was so harmful.

The glaring question being "how the fcuk did that find it's way on to the internet". What's the process there. I doubt the guy consented to it finding it's way there.
