    Hi everyone -

I have about 50 acres of agriland outside Dublin and am in fulltime work (which has hours that suit farm work),

I am thinking of becoming a sheep farmer on a part time basis.

What grants or subsidies are available to me if any - or how could I find this out? Is there a minimum number of sheep i must have etc?

Any help is much appreciated -

    Regards,

    G

    Hello BusinessDIT,

There are no grants or subsidies anymore really. There was one scheme, which people were hoping would re-open - called AEOS, but I dont believe it will reopen now.

Razor8 posted some very good info on costs in the first thread above, which may be of interest.

Unless you have an interest in sheep, then I wouldn't recommend going sheep farming. You wont make your millions from it :D

Reality is you might make as much money from letting it, and it would be a lot easier than putting sheep on it :(
