Hey, I don't agree with him at all, just saying what he said...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,533 ✭✭✭Colonialboy

why is given ging the ball short to the full backs who need 5 touches to get the ball out of their feet and are closed down and we are under pressure.
Its a game to hoof it long and get Spain playing from the edge of their box...ala Charlton

    What were people expecting exactly?

Spain have passed circles around teams much better then us.

I think the lads are doing the best they can.

Ah shur no point making any subs then. We have to at least TRY. Throw Walters Long and Mclean on and lets have a go ffs. Cant get much worse.

Long would be better up front than Keane to be honest he's not big enough or energetic enough to play this role

Walters / Long / Doyle. Any two of those up front. Dunne or Shay plays a long ball, ball is won or breaks, our midfield win any breaking ball by pushing up, position in the Spanish third.

To be fair to Roy Shay's been probably the worst keeper in this tournament.

I'm enjoying this half time break, because that means Spain don't have the ball

They are trying to be nice to Shay and won't criticise. But he should have blocked that.

The pace behind it made it very difficult for him to get his hands up quick enough.
He could have done better but I wouldn't criticise him for it, he may 3 good saves after that.

pissed off listening to Dunphy pandering to the players, "they are great lads" seems to be the general consensus.

As if the manager is demanding the give the ball away. Dunphy thinks its a case of "letting the lads play". Bullsh*t. Its a case of poor players its as simple as that.

No guts or character to get on the ball, no personality to take the ball in tight areas and settle things down.

very few players with any game intelligence

If fairness he's upfront on his own with nothing coming his way what do you expect from him??

The defending of Keane is comical at times. Maybe he can put himself about a bit more like Cox seems to be doing. He cannot hold the ball up, he cannot win possession back, he cannot link the play, he is not dangerous over the top, he cannot win it in the air, I struggle to see what he is actually good at to be honest

He can't even be a nuisance for central defenders
Have u watched the game, how the fck can he harrass there defenders when they don't have the ball, how can a centre forward up front on his own with no service and only 30% possession link up play. Keane at his best could never win it in the air, he is not the player to be upfront with this tactic/formation that ain't his fault.

You're wrong. What Ireland require at present is only one goal. Not to dominate posession or change the way Spain are playing. Just someone we can punt the ball forward to and hope for a bit of magic from. Keane needs support so it isn't going to happen for him alone up there.

We need the "Packie Bonner boots it into the opposite box, Niall Quinn scores" approach.

Should be Keane off tbh, but its a positive change

I realise that but I think people are getting frustrated because there are better options sitting on the bench who in reality should have started ahead of Keane, Whelan & McGeady. Given the way Spain are defending so high we should have some speed in the team.

I'd get McClean on for McGeady! I'm not saying it would work, but if it's one nil still, i have more faith in him getting a cross in than McGeady! McGeady refuses to cross for some reason. There was one moment in that half when he had space to cross and as per usual, went backwards!!

Did Eamo just say we have guts and Brazilians? If only:)

Resilience. Gort in Galway used have a fair community of Brazilians but im not sure if they are still there now.

God above its like were in a boxing match and we are banned from throwing a punch by our corner men. We're going out with a whimper as it stands. If we go down then so be it but i want us to go down throwing everything at them

We're f*cked. If only Walters had that bad ass handlebar moustache....

Irish fans have been brilliant tonight, feels like a home game.

What's with the thread title, are we not playing Spain?

Worst sub he could have made. Cox done alright, Keane should man up in the changing room. He is the captain and should be able to say this to trap.

Cox played far better than Keane did then...

Um, no. He is what he is. But tonight is tonight.

Argueably our best player ever? Agreed. If only he didnt have to deal with incompetance in what is supposed to be the pinnacle of football.

At least Ireland will see more of Spain's half, even if it is on the wrong side of half time.

yeah those two kicks would have made our total passes completed look a bit better

Cox is off, Trap is readying for McClean to come on for McGeady

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,778 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Trap got more touches of the ball than Robbie.

I wasn't impressed with him at all vs Croatia, but Andrews has been the best man out there tonight for Ireland, so far.

Been absolutely terrific in closing and tackling. I'd like to see more from him and Whelan in terms of just getting into space to recieve a pass to try to get a handle on the game.

Nah you're wrong. We're already chasing shadows with 9. We commit any more to attack and we'll let in more goals rather than getting one.
