Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Paint on floors - AHHHHHHHHH

Right am having the house repainted (I tried to do it myself and made a right mess of the walls but got none on the floor)

Anyway got two Polish guys, as slow as molasses in January but at least the walls are right! There are little spots of white paint all over the floors, I suspect it's off the wood work because the paint from the walls washed off but I can't get this off ... any suggestions?

    Buy carpets?

I suspect its gloss paint. If so,white spirits or Turpentine on a rag and rub over spots.

Failing that, move house as Keith said, its the only way

Having paid the painters and bought the paint? Unless the Vincent de Paul are going to fork out for some nice Axminster for me I may get scrubbing

Use Crayola. Much safer for people like you.

Join them up using a pencil. They might make a picture of a turtle or He-Man or something.

Post in Rec - Home and Garden - DIY and get a reasonable answer. You should say what kind of floors they are.

    White Spirits might work

Use one of those dish washing pads (sponge with the green scrubber) not a new one though as that might remove the varnish, all you need to do is dampen it with water and scrub.I wouldn't use spirits or turps as this might also stain the floor.

This works on both emulsion and oil based paints( although dry the oil based paint will not have bonded well with a varnished floor so is easily removed)

Fairy washing up liquid and sandpaper, on your hand and knees OP and get scrubbing
Don't go too hard now, don't mess up the wood. But give a good scrub, the washing up liquid will make this a lot easier

And don't hire cowboys next time

Not sure about paint thinner on the wood, might bleach it

If its a oil based paint then use white spirits. If its emulsion then scrub. I use a plastic scraper on emulsion and then scrub it off.

Beat the sh*t outta floor vigorously with your right earlobe that usually does the trick.

Burn your house down. That'll get rid of those pesky stains.

More paint will cancel the first paint out.

Get different paint and put spots on the walls, be all original like.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,572 ✭✭✭✭brummytom

    Pour red paint on it

Burn down your house and claim the insurance. With the money buy a new house and take a course in painting. Try again and don't worry if you fail again you can just repeat

Drill each spot out. That'll move 'em.

strategically place plant pots over the offending spots
