Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

After seeing this in the morning but looking at reviews for it during the day and while not spectacular, it's exactly what I am looking at for the price so ordered one along with an android mini-pc I wanted. Going to get stung for customs as larger package but can't see it being too much.

I did the above, so hopefully it speeds up the process!

Steve, will you give us a run down on this when you get it. Mad into buying one (Ainol Fire/Flame) but am afraid that it will turn out to have problems and I need it for a Christmas present so can do without any hassle.

Please lets know how you get on.

    Sorry yeah you are correct:
    Customs Duty - € 0.00
    VAT @ 23% - € 33.46
    An Post Fee - € 6.00

To update on the tablet, I played with it out of the box for 30mins and the touchscreen went dead. From reading the forums I should have updated to a more recent FW straight away without turning it on. There's a bug in the older FW which causes an overload to the touchscreen blowing some of it's components. It came with FW 815qm, I've since updated to 921 and 930 but no joy. In touch with the seller now to get it returned.

Anyone know if you have to pay VAT again for replacement unit?

    Ordered the following from geekbuying

Just trying to track the delivery through the sc.hongkongpost.com site but not having much luck. Has anyone else been able to track their deliveries via this site.

Jeez Steve sorry to hear that. That news has deffo put my order on hold, I've read about so many problems with this unit and apparently the 2nd generation is ok? Was yours a 2nd gen?

Is it even possible to update the firmware without turning it on, you should have been informed of this by the seller pre purchase?

Are you required to pay for the return of the unit - I wouldn't?

On more VAT issue, I think as it's a replacement they'll issue an invoice showing a value of €0.00 so you might just have to pay for the clearance - €6.00. Might be worth throwing off an e-mail to dmc@revenue.ie to clairfy the situation but I don't think you'll have to pay VAT again.

I think in general you cannot start tracking till in come into the An Post system, so you just have to keep an eye on it.

Yes, it will be €6.00 for customs clearance and VAT will have to be paid - that is the invoice price converted to Euro by the Customs rate of exchange, plus any shipping cost @ 23%.

Best e-mail them now with the invoice to avoid delays in delivery by An Post. You pay An Post on delivery for the clearance and VAT.

Yeah mine was second gen but was on an old firmware. It had the QM screen which made me think it was second gen, TM screen is the first gen afaik. The seller has sent me back a different FW, i've tried the two latest ones but didn't want to admit that to the seller, I'll reflash it with their recommended one and send it back.

Not sure if I have to pay for shipping back, probably will have to! I'll email revenue see what they say about a replacement unit, they could just think it's another way to get around having to pay the VAT.

Sorry to hear about your trouble, but if this was the item you bought from Dealsprime (Chinagrabber), your problems are probably only beginning.

I think you can probably kiss your money goodbye as you will get no satisfaction from them, despite what they say in emails and on their website.

    From their website:

Q: What is your Return / Repair Policy?

A: All Sales are final; Products come with a 1 year warranty. In the event an item needs to be repaired, please contact us a info@dealsprime.com and we will send you repair address. To see our full return policy click here

Rest assured China Grabber is managed by Westerners living in China so we place the highest importance on Quality Control; Also products are stringently tested before shipping out.

Best of luck with it, but if you pay for shipping it back to them you are probably only throwing good money away as they will deny receiving it or refuse it or return it to you as bad as when you sent it back.

Or you could send them a link to this thread and they might look after you to prove me wrong!!!

Bought the tablet in the op. €48 from geekbuying. Slipped past customs. It's a bit laggy where flash is concerned, but the YouTube app runs perfectly. All I want it for is to use it as a jukebox, so I'm happy. Screen resolution is acceptable, and build quality feels good. Don't know what the battery is like, but I'm not concerned. Well worth the money.

Good to hear to its good value for money as still waiting on mine. How much was customs for yours? Did it delay arrival?

Don't think you can avoid customs, people just seem to be getting lucky. Also i think there was a couple people that had some facebook issues from a quick search of this thread but they were sorted.

Aliexpress is a marketplace just like eBay and you need to treat it with the same care as would eBay. So look at the sellers feedback score and go on others recommendations of specific sellers.

If you take a little basic care in who you buy off you will be OK.

Time for me to confess that I havent a clue what I'm doing!! I've figured out its a QM version, not sure if thats good or bad, but am downloading Pat Mosses Rom v15 for it at the moment. Now to figure out how to format the memory card, unzip the ROM and apply it. Long night ahead me thinks!!

I bought from Mcbub and had ordered during the preorder stage, so feels like an age ago. Realistically it took 2 weeks from the time they got stock. Fingers crossed all goes well with the update and I'll be posting from it later. The screen is a beaut, bit heavier than I thought.

Watch this space (probably for me looking for advice on unbricking it in around an hour!!)

Same as u I hope , customs letter this morning . bah ., it should be here with me in exactly 15days form order which isn't bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,905 ✭✭✭Joeface

    So it arrived

Well packaged , lots of bubble wrap , turns on fine , connects to wifi fine ,
surfing is ok , not used it much only had 15min on break to mess with it .

I did install netflix app from market ,but for some reason its not loading. this could be me or something I missed .

This will be going to my niece to use and its Netflix and Facebook that will mainly be used...........so if anyone has got netflix to run let me know.

it is responsive enough when using the tablet , and display isn't bad quality. Viewing angle is fairly narrow but that could be the same with all tablets. Web cam is low quality but still , it works and image is clear enough. so far its not bad for an all in off 66euro .Only time will tell if its junk or value for money

Cheers for the mini review. Was that delivery time in 15 working days? Much delay with customs?

Mine was shipped on the third so trying estimate delivery. Tracker still says in eastern China!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,905 ✭✭✭Joeface

i ordered on the 20/9 and arrived 11/10, customs got it Friday 5/10 and I got the letter from them Monday , it arrived today (€17.25 to customs)

I ordered from geekbuying , i think that works out at 15 working days so its not far off what geekbuying had stated when I ordered.

can someone also recommend which reader I should be putting on this.

forgot to add one thing to my mini review

the DC jack :its not pretty , it doesn't sit flush with the side of the tablet when plugged in. It does look like this could be snapped off quiet easily.

Is www.geekbuying.com the same crowd as www.buyincoins.com - they have a very similar website?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,905 ✭✭✭Joeface

no idea , just used geekbuying cause there was paypal.
so I have had a few hours with this .
battery life is about 4 hours , watched 2 tv shows (avi) off a usb stick , this took battery down to close to 50%, and the rest went as i was surfing and other stuff. still have not got netflix to work . I know there are other options but i will spend a little bit more time to see if i can sort it out.Image quailty for the shows was perfect. the Speaker is not good at all. max volume is hard to hear. headphones work fine.
I also have had issues using the facebook app to log in.
Most of youtube streamed fine. I did run into problems when I went to watch H+ which i subscribed to on youtube. I am sure there are solutions to these .

also usb adapter does not insert in full either , same as the DC jack . don't like that as it does not look secure
    so far 6/10

Got everything I needed working last nite.

Facebook : uninstall app on tablet and download latest version (they are the same but different fixes the login issues )
Youtube app : same as above . not sure what the deal i might be a region thing but fixes this as well

Netflix : uninstall /or do not take the app from google play store , down load netflix 1.6.0 apk .go to www.iapktop.com/netflix-1-6-0.html and download here (do not select the link for android market take it from iapktop). It asks when it launches do you want to update ,i said no. bit slow scrolling through the shows but plays perfect.

also add Charge time on this is very slow as well, it takes hours . still leaving it 6/10 but a much happier 6/10.
Perfect of kids and casual users and those obsessed with angry birds .
