    Isn't the Lucas deal dead?

His agent (dad?) said it was.

However, he said we only bid once, which appears to be a lie.

He also said he is travelling to England tomorrow, apparently to follow the Brazil side, which Lucas is obviously a part of.

The cynic in me would suggest the deal is not dead and that what was said was to get SP to lower the demands (which appear to be frankly ridiculous based on the fees we've already had rejected!).

Also, Brazil play someone (can't remember) at Old Trafford in a week or so, I imagine there could be a change before then.

Also worth noting that Lucas is entitled to 20% of any transfer fee at the moment. that will increase to 30% on August 1st, so if SP can't get anyone to match their valuation of him now, I reckon it will be a lot harder come august where they will have to increase his valuation in order to keep the money they would get the same.

It is an arse of a transfer deal, but I would be shocked if it is dead.

    http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11667/7931141/Offers-invited-for-Moura
Sao Paulo have not ruled out the possibility of opening negotiations with Manchester United regarding Lucas Moura if the Premier League club meet a £30million asking price.

It has been reported the Brazil international, who is in Britain for the Olympics, will not be moving to Old Trafford because United cannot improve on an existing £25.6m bid.

Moura's agent has insisted he will not be talking with any United representatives while in England, but Sao Paulo have refused to close the door on any possible sale.

The South American giants are thought to want at least £30m for a player who has a £62m buy-out clause in his contract and they are continuing to invite offers, with Inter Milan also interested.

Sao Paulo vice-president Joao Paulo de Jesus Lopes told Estadao ESPN: "I don't rule out the possibility that in the future we open negotiations with Manchester United as we received them with great courtesy.

    Very important player

"And there is the possibility they come back with another offer. Their approach was serious.

"Other teams have also expressed interest for Lucas, but only through the press from their countries."

It also remains to be seen whether teenager Moura wants to leave South America for a move to Europe.

"Lucas has already expressed his intention of eventually staying at Sao Paulo," added Lopes.

"He is a very important player for our team. He wants to stay because he is still very young. He's only 19."

Well if they're bidding 26 they'll prob agree on 26 with future clauses tied in reaching 32 or something.

@mitchyyt Their board is a bit silly, they also did something like that regarding Hernanes, rejected many offers then sold for cheap.

    Paulo Freitas‏@Cynegeticus

@Deanc1985 I think they (club and agent) are trying to see how far Man Utd can go, test what's their limit, etc..

So, still all over the place with the Lucas stuff then

This is what a lot of South American clubs are like in the transfer market. They use every tactic under the sun to squeeze every last penny that can get out of buyers.

Hasn't dragged on for that long at all. Forums/twitter give fans a scewed perspective of time, as a couple of days of talking something to death seems like so much longer than it actually is.

I didn't say it had dragged on :) Just that I will be happy to see it resolved one way or the other asap, same as I am with all transfers :)

How so? The reports are that United made a new bid, you would imagine that was an improved bid no?

It was his agent that said the deal was dead, Sao Paulo then said it wasn't.

Who knows, it is standard for SA clubs to try to push to the brink, sometimes scaring a team away only to sell to someone else for a lower price then a bid they have already rejected. Strange chaps

These bloody transfer windows are like watching an episode of Lost.

Nothing happens for ages, then when it finally looks like we've made some progress more crap gets in the way and you're right back where you started.

Just hoping the end of this transfer window isn't as disappointing as the end of Lost..

Is this Lucas Moura transfer saga as annoying the Sneijder one was yet?

Both sagas are kind of similar: Surprisingly high offers from United that look like risky deals for players we don't really need and a world of rumours and contradictory information coming through the press and twitter.

At least with Moura Fergie has admitted that United are interested.

L.Moura's agent talked to 'Rádio Globo' as well, he said Lucas is interested in a move to #MUFC but would be happy to stay at São Paulo too.

For some reason I'm not all that bothered by this deal. Looks a good player from the clips I've seen and from reports but a) it's a big amount of money b) he's a winger, we already have 3 + a number of players who can also play on the wing and c) I don't like all the constant ****e talk from his agent/father.

Also not an awful amount of players coming straight from Brazil for major money haven't exactly lived up to their reputation - Denilson 21.5m, Lucas (not the Liverpool one obviously) to Rennes 21m, Robinho 32.5m, Pato to a large degree too for 19.5m, Geovanni to Barca 18.5m.

I'm just sceptical given the money and would rather we went hell for leather for Modric for an extra few million (given that Madrid are reportedly only willing to bid a certain amount - around 26m I think?).

This. If indeed we were to end up paying £30 million for this kid, and Modric was to leave for £35 million to Madrid, I'd be a little miffed we didn't stump up the extra, even though our price for Modric is probably a little higher given we're English.

Ehh since when did Robinho become a flop after moving to Madrid, he was brilliant.

Well the money could well be recouped.
Unlike signing Modric who's mid 20's
