Bebe's crossing was awful alright but to be fair to him, he probably would have done a bit better if he wasn't played out position... Just waiting for Shinji to line out at RB this season ;)

More rumours of Berbs to Malaga being close, I'll shed a lil tear when he goes :(

Will be extremely sorry to see him go, but he deserves better then what he is getting at United and it is in nobodies interests to keep him if he is not going to be used.

He is too good and he gets paid too much.

Of course we're spoilt to have him as a sub keeper. But he is quality, and you have to think that sort of keeper is going to seek game time. While we have him, I'm delighted.:)

If he was sold now I think we would make nice profit on him, but it would leave us quite inexperienced in the goalie department.

Danilo Cataldi, another youngster?17 years old from Lazio, looks to be on his way apparently....

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,422 ✭✭✭Fenix

Heard a little about him yesterday, another young Italian prospect currently at Lazio, although his agent said it could happen, his preference was to stay at Lazio, could just be manoeuvring for a new deal I guess?

    Edit : autocorrect hates me...

I actually never really read much about the Mendes business, was he getting huge bonuses from it or something?

Days before Bebé signed for United, Jorge Mendes became his agent. Jorge Mendes got £3.6m of the £7.8m.

And Utd were in on this? Or Quirez? Or is it just Mendes' foul play?

United scratching Mendes' back for help with transfers past and future. Pretty all around horrible behaviour it must be said.

The Portugese police were looking into it alright, but supposedly United done no wrong in the transfer.

    Poor old Bebe.

Watched the United DVD about the 2010/2011 season. I almost forgot how outstanding Berba was for us in getting #19. He'll definitely be missed.

I don't believe United did no wrong. Maybe nothing illegal, but the transfer absolutely stinks.

There is absolutely no good reason for United to have spent near 8million on a player offered around europe for 100k a month or so previous, with little under half of that going to an agent rather pally with the club who was not the players agent mere days before the transfer. On top of this he is a player the club/fergie have admitted they never looked at our scouted prior to the signing.

    It absolutely stinks.

    Of course that's what I meant. :)

It was an amazing transfer though.
It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if it was nothing more than keeping Mendes sweet and onside for future United transfers involving his clients.

Mats Moeller Dæhli is aparently training with Ole at Molde at the moment, hopefully he's not gonna nick him like Eikrem, technically he looks superb, would like to see him grow a few more inches and bulk up, but but he's plenty of time as still very young.

I read it's nothing more than Mats keeping his fitness up and that he done it last year also.

I'd say United weren't in on it but they certainly didn't queer the deal. Mourinho at Real was also in the mix. I would imagine it was the machinations of Mendes and probalby complemented by some Guinimares (sp.) executives. Bebé was just the pawn in it all.

It is the primary reason for me that I'd love him to become a United legend. I genuinely root for the guy. That type of exploitation could happen any young fella.

Just moving on from the point a little, I often think about how utterly stupid the business of football is. If a manager in a brokerage made a blind trade for over the odds such as Ferguson he'd be certainly sacked.

Look at guys like Peter Reid, total incompentants consistantly being reemployed despite the total record of failure. Look at the singings of the same failures time and time again. Players who patently offer a club nothing yet get constantly reemployed. Many of the 'human resources' situations that occur at football clubs would be unheard of in every other field of commerce. The paucity of wit is all the more stark when you see the hundreds of millions at stake!

Good to know, think himself and Perreria could impress in the youth (and reserve) ranks this season.

On Bebe transfer, either we didn't know in which case we look amateurish, or we did know and we look dirty, dont see any winners here bar Mendes.

I think in so far as they wanted to strengthen linkes with Mendes they knew they were paying way over the odds. I think what went on in the backround with Mendes they knew/cared little for. They just wanted a Mendes transfer completed.

What I'd worry about is that United might actually have a decent if extremely raw and over-priced player and that because of Ferguson's issues with agents he might make Bebe rot as opposed develop him.

Obviously I don't know what Ferguson thinks of the lad. Maybe he sees something in him. Who knows. I heard the coaches were unimpressed, but there again Mike Phelan is employed as a coach so I'd take their opinions with a pinch of salt.

MD was the most impressive youth player for me by a long was last season. Not sure how much more you'd want him to impress.

Not sure about him in the ressie next season, he's young and pretty tiny.

On the subject of youth team /reserve players:

Mitch/anyone you reckon that Lingard will get moved up or loaned next season? I quite like him, great attitude and has improved every year.

His transfer to Guinimares and the exact circumstances.

His sudden switch to Mendes as an agent; how much would United have been aware of that?

How much did United know of Mendes' machinations in bringing the deal to them?

Mendes delivered Ronaldo and possibly Nani and Anderson. Hypothetically: Perhaps Mendes contacted United saying I've a special talent, you need to act quickly here are DVD's Quieroz reckons he's the real deal etc. United decided to take quick affermative action and signed him blind. United did not want to rebuff Mendes and Mendes knowing that United were looking to Portugal for value for money targets exploited that. Long term perhaps united wnat to keep Mendes sweet knowing he is Mourinho's agent.

I think to suggest United drove or pushed the deal in any way is ridiculous. If they wanted to, nay expressly desired to do business with Mendes surely they'd have chosen a player they desired.

Mendes came to United. that I'd be certain of.

United wanted to keep Mendes sweet and £7.8m was cheap price to keep a valuable asset on retainer.

you have to accept that that is a theory but likewise anything you'd counter with would also be theoretical. I be interested to hear your take on it however.

So just regarding Bebe himself, do you reckon we should loan him out again, see what he's actually like when fit and decide whether to keep him or offload him at that stage?

I'd like him loaned out to a Champioship/L1 team for a year to see what he's made of tbh.

More on Rordriguez today, more than likely just agent talk though and I'd be happy if it was, not another winger before a central midfielder
The agent of Porto winger James Rodriguez has admitted it is a complicated situation as he prepares to hold talks with the club, with speculation continuing to link the Colombian with a move to Manchester United.

Rodriguez is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the game after a couple of impressive seasons with Porto and fresh reports have suggested that he is attracting the attention of other clubs.

United are understood to be keeping tabs on his situation and stories in the Portuguese press claim they have made an offer to Porto which has been rejected.

Rodriguez is thought to have a release clause of around £40million in the contract he signed only last year and Porto are standing firm as they want a good price for the 20-year-old.

    Analyse

Rodriguez's representative, Silvio Sandri, has remained coy about his client's future after being quizzed on the subject, but says he will be speaking to Porto soon.

"Really there does not exist any big news about this but it is a subject we need to analyse," Sandri is quoted as saying in O Jogo.

"In a couple of weeks I will fly to Portugal and I expect to have a meeting with the Porto directors to discuss the situation.

"I cannot offer more details because it is a very complex subject."

Kag can even play left wing, completely unnecessary, especially for that type of money.

I hope he does get loaned out somewhere that will give him a chance. To be fair, at the moment he's dead weight. There's no chance of recouping anything more than a small fraction of his transfer fee, if he could be sold at all. If he's loaned out again maybe he'll improve somewhat. He's 21 now but has seen very little professional game time, a good loan spell could help his cause a lot.

If we're going to pay 40m at least for a left winger then it must mean Nani's on the way out.

Bebe is a strange transfer. Obertan, Diouf, Manucho, Tosic, De Laet, Bellion are other examples of strange signings.

Hopefully he goes on to have a good career like the rest have/should.

He has serious power and pace. If he ever figures out he doesn't have to do everything at maximum speed with maximum power he has a chance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,721 ✭✭✭Al Capwned

Ok I know the 'release clause' is £40m, but surely to God there is no way Fergie is gonna spend that on a 20 year old.

He isn't. It's not Fergie's style. Maybe if he was the next great English hope, like Wayne Rooney was.

Good luck negotiating with Porto. They always get a good price and are like Spurs to deal with

Release clauses are wildly inflated prices almost by definition, the fee for that lad would be nowhere near 40M.

There is definitely a "shadier aspect" to the link with Mendes and United which should be under a lot more scrutiny than it is. As recently as last summer with the De Gea agent rigmarole this was evident.
