Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Sure why not!

Regardless of whether he's the greatest manager of all time or not, if we sign Moura and RVP and don't sign at least one midfielder and at least one fullback, it's a shocking error on Fergie's part IMO.

Before SAF publicly announced his interest I presumed that it was all bullsh*t. Their both out of character potential signings for Fergie, especially lucas.

We haven't exactly set the world on fire during preseason (so far).

Remember when United would play teams who didn't put 11 men in the box :D

Surely Kag has a major role to play in persuading Sahin to join United?

The two played beside each other in Dortmund's title winning side after all...

God I hope so. Would really add that little bit extra to the team that we need in my opinion.

Brazilian Federation have apparently released a statement saying that there have been no requests for Lucas to leave for a medical and that even if there was a request they would reject it.

Puts an end to the Fail's story for today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭double GG

We were fairly comfortable all game, but that's the bad thing. We were too comfortable and never seemed like we had any gears to go through to score.

No urgency, too much tippy tappying around the box when shooting was by far the more viable option. Welbeck was the main culprit of this.

Rooney was poor, mis-controlled countless times and played some poor passes. Nani had moments and produced some nice touches but wasn't looking very sharp on a whole.
    Young was fairly anonymous throughout.
Welbeck had some good link up play and worked pretty hard, probably had our best chance but as we are used to seeing he fluffed it by taking too many touches.
Scholes and Carrick were solid enough.
Fantastic to see Vidic back and he was fairly comfortable and untroubled throughout.
Rio strolled through the game as usual.
Keane was impressive at left back.
Valencia did okay but isn't a RB, almost scored also.
Lindegaard didn't have much to do but misjudged one corner after being tripped by Carrick.

Kagawa uppe the tempo when he came on and produced some nice passes but it's a delight to see how comfortable and intelligent he is on the ball. Just missed Rooney's pull back.

An alright game, the real test will come on Wednesday. Still 2 weeks away from Everton but we are a good bit behind reaching our free flowing best.

Goalscoring seems to be our problem at the moment.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,521 ✭✭✭Giggsy11

Liked Kagawa's cameo. He linked up well with Nani and also Valencia.

We had very good chances but were not clinical enough. Also that this is the first game for the players back from Euro. Good to see Vida back, hopefully he will be fit enough to start the season.

This is what I was referring to earlier. Once again, we seemed to be dominating the game for the most part but not actually making or taking proper chances. I know a part of that is down to the fact the other team, like nearly every team now, were defending with 10 men in the box. But it feels like we can keep the ball outside the box but don't seem to be all that pushed with actually scoring :/

We played like that all last year and it was the same today :/ Just feel like we need a kick up our ass.....

None of the english teams have looked good. Liverpool, Chelsea, United. All looked fairly lacklustre. Apart from Sigurdsson, Spurs have looked poor enough too.

It's just pre-season. Players aren't going to bust a gut and it makes a big difference.

Have to say, this year's pre-season has been absolutely crap. That's the 4th game I've watched, and they have all been boring and just really poor. And what is it with teams putting 10 men behind the ball in preseason? Shanghai and Valerenga in particular absolutely packed the box with bodies, very frustrating. Hopefully back to the US next year.

Couldn't agree more. People can criticise the quality of the MLS all they want, they try to play positive football and the games are generally entertaining.
This tour from my point of view(entertainment), was a flop. 3 goals in 4 games is terrible.

Just been reading a thread on RedCafe & I have to agree with much of it.What has happened with our fast passing game with lot's of movement?
Even watching the highlights of season's past ala '99 the difference is amazing compared to some of the stuff we've played lately. Then we had speed, fluidity & movement in our play but now at times it's very formulaic,it's as if the players are pre programmed to play a certain way and it's very sluggish.

    Here's the thread if anyone want's a look, http://www.redcafe.net/f6/static-slow-motion-zombie-passing-357323/

All seems quiet on the United front...maybe Fergie could have gone to the United game after all?

As an aside, hilarious re Adebayor...deal apparently done with Spurs and City re his £175k a week wages and a £4m transfer fee. Then supposedly at the last minute, Adebayor and his advisers demand that the £4m is paid to him! Now Spurs may be out and City / Sheikh Mansour may be happy to let him rot in the reserves.

Fergie, get Kagawa on the phone to Sahin to tell him how great life is at United!

Why are people assuming Nani will leave if Lucas comes in? Lucas is only 19 and he'd need to be eased in slowly. He' a spectacular talent but he's very raw. Nani, val and young will play most games and Lucas will be more of an impact sub and cup player.

As a side issue hes the fastest player ive ever seen. Would bbe very exciting to watch him develop if he is signed.

if we are spending 30m it wont be on someone who is going to play a handful of matches

He'd be the fourth winger on the books, Nani's contract is all up in the air as of late, at 30ish million I doubt he would be brought in to sit on the bench.

If were signing a player who need to be eased in then it doesnt matter what the fee is. You sign a mineteen year old to develop him for the long term rather expecting immediate results.
I hope people arent going to expect miracles straight away. Hes miles from being anywhere near complete.

Fergie leaves the attack far too isolated through the middle. When Nani/Valencia get the ball they either have to give it to Rooney or go back to to the full backs and the distance between all the players is pretty big when compared to the likes of Barca and City who have a free form where players support each other when they have the ball. When Carrick has gotten forward over the last couple of seasons the team has looked far more threatening because of this.

Hey lads, don't usually post in here so forgive me if this has already been posted.

Talks of United's deal with Chevy being 40m a year and the guy who brokered it getting the sack
Manchester United's new shirt sponsorship deal with Chevrolet is worth half a billion dollars - or £360 million - and led to a marketing executive leaving the car giant, according to reports.

Initial reports said the nine-year deal was worth about £28m a year until 2021 but it appears that was an underestimate, with the club getting paid from this season even though the company’s logo will not be on shirts until 2014.
If the reports are true, United’s deal with Chevy will be the biggest ever in football. Aon’s current shirt sponsorship deal with United stands at £19m per year, while the largest current deal is Barcelona’s with Qatar Foundation, at £25m per year. United's arrangement with Chevy will be worth almost twice that, at £40m per year.
The man who is understood to have negotiated the deal, General Motors chief marketing officer Joel Ewanick, left the company soon afterwards - and insiders say it was because he was censured over the terms he agreed for the deal.
A General Motors spokesman said Ewanick "failed to meet the expectations the company has for its employees".

Nani still has time on his contract no need to panic yet. As for having four wingers this has been the case for a while and we easily have room for a young player to be eased in. If he got the games Park did last year itd be a good start.

if fergie spends that amount on a player hes going to be playing imo. hes shown constantly that if they are talented enough they will play and hes not scared to throw in young players when he sees such talent.

    Hi There

Rumour has it that the guy was sacked on foot of a previous deal with United (to be official car to the club) rather than on foot of this much bigger deal.

Fergie and Cass are pals again. Gave him a lomg sit down interview a while back in which he confirmed Lucas interest amongst others. zthink Cass' latest stuff is more based on what Fergie told him then than anything else tbh.

Well if Lucas impresses then yes. But think the intention will be to ease him in like it was for CR before he turned out to be semi decent. Either way his arrival doesnt have any implications for Nani. Let there be no panic. Way too much girlish hand ringing in this thread in general. Trust the boss. He has this.
