  • Registered Users Posts: 1,389 ✭✭✭macslash

Desperately waiting on news of CM signing...:(

As a previous poster said, if it doesn't happen within the next week it's doubtful it will at all..

When will the first draft of the tour squad be announced? Really cant wait! Think I will need to see the jersey in a few games to get used to it!

Just watching the 4-1 against Liverpool at OT on ESPN Classic. the co-commentator said at the start of the match that he believes Michael Carrick to be the best holding midfielder in the world. In March 2009.

Did anyone here ever rate Michael Carrick that highly? Even though they were the defending Premier League and Champions League champions.

Close to. People started doubting his ability after the 2009 CL finals, before that he was very good, I think even scored a winner against Wigan and if I'm not wrong he was very good back then and he didn't play just holding role.

Also that was after Inter game where he was very good.

I wouldn't say "The Best" but one of the.

Looking very like Martinez to Bayern is on...

Thier midfield is fu<king amaze balls, Müller, Schwienstiger, Gustavo, Ribery, Robben, Shaquiri, Kroos, Emre...

Maybe some will be surplus to requirements, I'd take Gustavo in a heart beat!

Powell and Kag are being officially unveiled tomorrow

Should be fighting to sign Martinez rather than going after their deadwoods, Ideally.

Yeah even I don't mind Gustavo. Good defensive player and can shoot from distance.

Yea well I think that goes without saying, however, if the deal was already done and an opertunity was to present itself to get Gustavo, we should take it!

I'm talking completely hypothetically of course, just what I would like to happen, he's the sort of player we are crying out for.

You have got to be fùcking shìtting me! If Martinez goes to Bayern and we don't even put in a bid for him I will vomit.

He will be good addition but I dont agree with he is the sort of player we are crying out for.

Vidal is the sort of player we need. As we can't get him we should at least try to sign Fellaini.

From what I can see, there has been no new developments on Javi Martinez to Bayern. They've been linked heavily with him though. Barca are also being strongly linked over the last number of hours. The feeling is that teams are interested but reluctant to pay the €40m release clause.

We were ready to pay 32 Million pounds for Hazard, player whom we don't even need. We should go all out for Martinez. Not 40Million but somewhere near that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,347 ✭✭✭Quandary

Martinez is almost the perfect fit for our midfield problems. If he leaves Spain for Germany you have to imagine he at the very least would consider England.

If ever there was a midfielder out there who I would happily see us drop a huge sum on its Martinez.

£32m and €40m are roughly the same thing...

I agree, but who knows what has gone on? Maybe we did briefly inquire but the club felt it was a non runner for whatever reason?

Was there not aaaaaaaaaaaaaanything to be said for signing Seydou Keita?

He is tall, physical, imposing, good both defensively and going forward. Granted, he is 32 now (I think), but would have definitely added something to our midfield for the next 2 seasons.

For free, we surely had to have a look at signing him. Can't get better value than that.

I'd imagine his wage demands would have made it a non runner from the start. He'll probably end up at some Asian club earning well over £100k a week.

There are two outcomes to signing him though, and neither are good.

    1. He is too old/slow and doesn't fit in with the system. This means he doesn't get played and we find ourselves in the same position we are now on the pitch and a considerable weekly wage added to an already top heavy wage bill

    2. He gets on fine, has some really good games over the next season which means we don't address the position with a signing next summer and come July 2014 you and I are having the same conversation we are now

The thing is though, if he does go to Bayern for c £30m and non-insane wages and we don't here a peep out of United and United don't sign a CM of similar type - it will be a little hard to believe that a possible move to United for him was just a non-runner. That's a lot of ifs I know.

A lot of players don't want to live in England. It could be as simple as that.
I agree we should be chasing him though.

I know, I said something close to that as flair player cost more and usually attackers cost more than midfielders.

Will be happy if we can sign him for 32Million pound.

Yeah that's true. I would just think - if all the things I mentioned came to pass - that Martinez not wanting to live in England is less likely a reason than Fergie just not being very interested. Especially when you consider his track record on central midfielders.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,422 ✭✭✭Fenix

Fergie isn't blind, he was at the Bilbao games, he knows what Martinez is about. If there is a realistic chance of us getting him and interest on his part, then what's to say it couldn't happen? (still think he's bound for bayern). All speculation though, none of us know what SAF is thinkin or trying to do behind closed doors. Which makes talkin about it even more pointless :)

Fergie in London for RVP, delegation In brazil for Lucas. Fed up off all this bull****, if we sign Baines that will conclude our business.

    Just want new season now.

Anyone get the feeling Powell will be getting a bit of action this season? Didn't envisage him being anywhere near the 1st team tbh.

That is for tomorrow. Kagawa, Powell and RVP at a time.

yet if we sign Baines for the crazy fees being reported, it would see us spending almost 90million pounds in just over 12 months, the biggest outlay in the clubs history.

that 90 million was spend on a keeper, a CB, a LB (assuming), an attacking midfielder, a young striker/acm and a winger. for the last 18 months, its been

clear that priority was a keeper and 2 central players.
it all doesn't add up to anything other than Fergie genuinely not seeing a need for buying in central midfield.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,949 ✭✭✭Samich

I think the Glazers have made loads of money available. I don't think we'd have spent as much if they weren't there. I think Fergie doesn't want to spend everything as I'm sure he knows the arse could fall out of everything. i.e David O'Leary

Some load of ****e going around the net today!!

The club has signed a 3 year deal with an Academy, kinda doing its bit for the community I think http://www.24dash.com/news/housing/2012-07-11-Manchester-United-signs-three-year-deal-with-Academy

Also a blog giving a short bit about the United players involved in the euros

    http://7cantonas.com/2012/07/how-manchester-uniteds-players-shaped-up-at-the-euros/

Worth a glance purely for the smile that reading
Ashley Young looked threatening from the off, and his performance level improved as the tournament went on, but he will have been disappointed to have missed that penalty against Italy.

Will bring to your face :)

Would have been a good call if you had said it a week earlier :)

He signed for a Chinese club last week, so you are correct, if you didn't hear about that.

Too old and slow? We have Giggs (38) and Scholes (37) who Fergie don't deem to be "too old".

We've already shifted, Park, Owen, PIG, possibly Fabio, off the wage bill. Wouldn't have had to pay a transfer fee. If we had room enough on the wage bill for Hazard, and the "one or two" other things, that Fergie said we are looking at, I don't see it being a massive problem.

Having said that, if he wanted ridiculous wages, fine, no deal. Enjoy China.

I don't understand this logic at all. It wouldn't (or at least, shouldn't) be a case of "we have Keita, that's us sorted until 2014" as you say.

If he got on fine, helped us stop the gap for two seasons, helped win a trophy or two, and was then replaced, it would be a largely successful signing.

Put it like this, I'd rather have a proven, quality player who could add a lot to us with two seasons left in him, than nobody.

We need strengthening now, he would have strengthened us imo. We'll need to strengthen again next Summer when presumably Giggs/Scholes will be gone. It should be an on-going thing.

Hopefully we'll sign Felliani in the next hour, and everyone will be happy

to this day, i have no idea why on earth we signed ashley young. he has a decent season last year, good stats and a good end to the season, HOWEVER, can anybody on here tell me that if they were given the money (£16million) to spend, would they honestly have bought him?

yes or no answers would be nice for a change!
