Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

When was the last time RVP was out for more than a couple of weeks through injury? Actually when was the last time he missed a game through injury?

I keep hearing he's injury prone, and while he was in the past, I've heard very little about him picking up injuries overthe last 18 months.

Yeah last eighteen months he's been mostly fine, it's the decade or so prior to that people are worried about.

I know, his full injury record should be taken into consideration somewhat but surely you'd place more weight on his last 18 months or so as an indication for the future?

The season before last he picked up a good few injuries. He missed September-November in 2010 iirc.

Maybe we're bidding so that Man City end up paying more?

Do Arsenal really need another club bidding to push up the asking price when Man City come calling?

Would any team pushing up the price City have to pay damage them in any way?

    I don't think so.

Yeah, he had a dreadful injury record up until then but my point is that he hasn't really been injured post Xmas 2010. That's a long time for an 'injury prone' player to go without injury.

Im just curious, but how are Arsenal playing a very dangerous game holding out for as much money as they can get? If Man City are serious about getting RVP and are willing to splash the cash required than RVP would sign for them ahead of Man Utd if Man Utd cant come to an agreement with Arsenal, even if he had a preference to sign for you. They can offer him ridiculous wages and its not like Man City arent ambitious (something which RVP claims Arsenal lack).

Naturally Arsenal are going to try to get as much as they can for him and thats to be expected but what I was getting at is that RVP is in a very strong position contract wise. If and again its an 'if' he has decided to join a certain team but their offer is rejected what is to stop him seeing out his contract and leaving for free. Without a transfer fee attached he'd be looking at silly money. Granted City can and probably will make a ridiculous offer but if he refuses to join them and Arsenal dig their heels for £20 million...

He has what 1 season in 8 where he's managed to stay injury free?

Only if they're concerned about FFP. Which they probably aren't.

Or depending on what way you look at it, 1 season in 1 ;) :P

Well that's the worst spin you could possibly put on it. I would consider the fact that he's stayed virtually injury free for the last 18 months far more pertinent.

I know it would shackle Rooney but he is so creative and dogged in chasing ball down maybe CM could be suited to him

I believe Alan Smith would like a word with you...

Hey Trill. You're back just in time to enjoy Fergie's massive transfer trolling that he's in the middle of. It's impressive.

Yes but you really have to take into account his dreadful past. As this is his real first injury free season we can't jump to the "Oh he's injury free now". This season will be telling in that regard.

I dont think we need RVP, as said already we have enought talent up front. IMHO we need a left back & midfielder, I think Evra's defending was very poor last couple of seasons. Will give the boss benefit re world class midfielder as what money is there is paying the interest on club debt's.

    Welcome.

You might have to stop giving Fergie the benefit of the doubt re money available if he ends up splurging on another forward, like the rumours threaten that he might. We'll have to wait and see I suppose.

As good as Hernandez and Welbeck are, they are not RVP. We don't need him, but he definitely improves the team. He's one of the best forwards in the world, he'd start in any side imo

He's not better than Rooney or Kagawa though.

It's not as clear cut as you make it sound. Playing with players like Gervinho and Ramsay and still banging them in. Takes doing.

Sir Alex Ferguson confirms that #MUFC have bid for Robin van Persie. "We've shown an interest but there are other clubs interested."

    Ferguson "
AFC have given it out we've made a bid for van Persie, we've tried to keep it as close to a moment that we could conclude a deal"

Goal.com are reporting an interest in Sahin. I'd love to see him at United, played with Kagawa before and with Madrid seemingly having Modric in the bag, I think we could get him for cheap enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 654 ✭✭✭Hunter Mahan

As far as I know Welbeck still hasn't signed the contract offered to him, which may be a reason United bid for RVP.
Either way, no one can tell me that he wouldn't improve the team.

I wouldn't count on it. Only there a year, is there till 2017 and is an amazing talent.

    Boss on van Persie bid
Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed making a bid for Arsenal captain Robin van Persie.

The Gunners' skipper has refused to sign a new contract at the Emirates Stadium and is also said to be interesting Juventus and Manchester City.

"Obviously Arsenal have given out the fact that we've made a bid for him," the manager told MUTV.

"We try to keep business as close as possible to us until the moment we conclude a deal. There's no point talking about something that might not happen.

"There are other clubs interested in the player. We've shown an interest and that's where we're at at the moment."

Arsenal have a lot of players who are good on the ball and make a very fluid and effective attack. Their problems are more defensive. But RVP is definitely world class, I'm not denying that.

However, he is still not what you would call an improvement on Rooney or Kagawa (I only mention Kagawa he is the specialist number 10). All three are world class. Trying to squeeze all three into the one team is a ridiculous waste of money unless you are going to go with a wingerless formation. Which would in turn be a waste of money because we have such a talented collection of wingers. Having any of those three on the bench is also a ridiculous waste of money.

Why did he come out now and confirm it ? Like last season when everyone was saying were signing Sneijder he never came and confirmed it or rubbished it .

Well no one can say for sure we aren't after Lucas now either ;)

I think SAF's gone to a place of "Score 8 goals against every team! Fcuk the rest!!"

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,521 ✭✭✭Giggsy11

Am I the only one who thinks that this is a smokescreen for signing someone else? I mean when was the last time SAF confirmed making a bid for a player?

If we sign RVP, which I don't think will happen, he'll shunt Kagawa out on the left.

Granted he plays there for his country but I don't think you'd get the best out of him there.

Imo, he's better than Kagawa. I'd say he's equal to Rooney, but I think both could play together quite well.

If we do manage to sign him, obviously it's a problem as between Rooney, RVP, Kagawa, Nani and Valencia you have 5 players who should be playing and then Hernandez, Young, Welbeck etc who are also good enough, but tbh if Kagawa has to sit on the bench or play on the left cos we sign RVP, then so be it, if he can prove in training, that he deserves to play then that competition for places is a good thing. Not having to rely on Rooney to score everything would be nice too

Would it be fair to say you'd prefer RVP over Kagawa?

Because in the No.10 role, Kagawa's role, Kagawa is better than RVP.

Somewhat surprised we actually bid for rvp, id have him in a heartbeat but after we fix what's broken

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,086 ✭✭✭markc1184

Could there be some sort of method to SAF's madness by coming out publically and saying United have bid? Sort of get into the players head type thing? Let him know That he is wanted.

That, or SAF and Wenger's new found freindship has got to a stage were they will help each other out in cases like this to try and start an auction for the player! I know this is highly unlikely!
