I seem to recall him describing Carrick as a useless footballer, or something like that. Playing for Spurs, getting a big money move to Man Utd and inheriting the infamous no.16 and still being a starter shows how useless he really is.

Also I could be wrong, but I don't think Fergie compared Carrick to Toure or Modric, he said they were the best in the position.

"If you look at the central midfielders in the Premier League, he can match up against any of them in terms of quality.

Oh he does compare him to the central midfielders in the Prem alright and says he matches up in terms of quality.

This is not true imo, but I hardly expect him to come out and say he is inferior so wouldn't make much of it.
