Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Sad to say Shay is finished as a top keeper, once a keeper loses his confidence it's very hard to get it back. Same thing happened to Pat Bonner around the same age.

    Stephen Ward is killing us.

    Fcuk

How was that goal Ward's fault? Whelan gave the ball away, Given spilled the shot for a corner, Duff didn't clear off the line.

We were playing so much better :(

Glenn Whelan is useless. He needs to be subbed. He was the cause of that attack by giving the ball away.

    Fcuk

    That was all givens fault
Di Natale ghosted him just before that.

Soul destroying watching Ireland play in this tournament, they are not this poor.

Given strikes again. Westwood should have been first choice for a while now. Taller man for a start.

Given has been awful this tournament

Saved us so many times before, but has cost us massively here

I hope it doesnt come out he was "bravely carrying and injury" afterwards, id be disgusted

He should have saved that Morientes penalty aswell

    School boy stuff.

Jesus our central midfield is so inept. At one stage Whelan turned around to run away from Pirlo on the ball who was 10 yards in front of him, not even facing the ball, just to jog back in front of the CB's. At least look at the ball and position yourself in front of where it could be played if your going back.

Goal was nothing to do with Ward

Whelan gave it away, Given spilled the shot, Andrews left his man get a free header, Given missed with a flap, Duff failed to do his job on the line.

Im no fan of Ward but dont see what he did wrong there

How soon people forget the contributions of Given over the last 14 years.

Honestly, some of the posts about him never being a decent keeper or that he should retire as it would best for Ireland (when our sub Keeper can't get a game for his club) are really disgusting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,038 ✭✭✭✭niallo27

People can complain about given and rightly so, but the ease at which the shot that led to the corner came in was a disgrace, he was just let turn and shoot without even a challenge, that lack of effort is unforgivable.

Bollix he was a top keeper, but has clearly lost his edge. Don't rewrite the past.

Not trying to argue anything. Just saying he's done. Which he clearly is.

Doesn't matter what some has done or contributed. It's what they're contributing now.

If it was about what they had contributed then Dalglish would have never been sacked at Liverpool.

He was never a top keeper. He was very good at one stage.

I wouldn't class him alongside the top keepers.

No he wasn't, he had a pretty good season and was probably one of the main reasons Villa didn't go down

Who cares about any of the players contributions over the years if they are currently **** / too old.

Why are they wearing black armbands?

Given made 3 mistakes in a row.

Keane shouldn't be starting. He hasn't influenced the game one bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Kiwi_knock

Given is a good shot stopper but has never controlled his box. This fact means that he can not be classified as a top class keeper. He has been a good servant for Ireland, but he is overrated by Ireland fans when they label him a great or top keeper.

Whelan and Andrews are absolute jokes. Their first thought when in possession is to face our own goal and tap it back to Ledger or Given.

The ref is a little creep, stopping play for any little thing.
