Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Given has been absolutely horrible this tournament. Surely we can all agree on that.

So funny how everybody can see the problems with the team but Trap continues not to listen. Plenty of unrest now in the camp too because of it.

The future is looking very bleak with this man in charge.

Whelan and Andrews are absolute jokes. Their first thought when in possession is to face our own goal and tap it back to Ledger or Given.

    Trap's instructions tbf.

Doesn't matter what some has done or contributed. It's what they're contributing now.

If it was about what they had contributed then Dalglish would have never been sacked at Liverpool.

My post was quite clearly directed at those saying he should retire (you) or others who are trying to (laughably) say he was never a decent keeper.

Try and put effort into reading posts you want to quote.

Given made 3 mistakes in a row.

Keane shouldn't be starting. He hasn't influenced the game one bit.

It's a poor when you can't pass it around your back four :)
Or make more than 5 passes :)

He was never a top keeper. He was very good at one stage.

I wouldn't class him alongside the top keepers.

Stop splitting hairs and shut up will ya:rolleyes:

Given has been a top top class keeper for a long time and an incredible servant to his country, just sad to see him at his worst during this tournament.

Dedicating this one to Shay. Have a better second half and go out with a bang!

There was lots of talk about Givens Injuries before the tournament - he looks like he may be crocked at this stage.

How soon people forget the contributions of Given over the last 14 years.

Honestly, some of the posts about him never being a decent keeper or that he should retire as it would best for Ireland (when our sub Keeper can't get a game for his club) are really disgusting.

You're basically saying because he's saved us in his 14 year Ireland career he should keep playing.

How many goals has he been at fault for this tournament. Too many!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,816 ✭✭✭Tigerandahalf

This year A Villa conceded the most goals from corners. Ire have conceded a lot of goals from free kicks and corners. Given has never had the height to dominate his box.

8 -1 down after 2 and a half games is the pits of despair. :(

This thread is a mess of hyperbole and bad cliches. Bar the mistake that led to the goal we've been decent. We had a very good spell where we were the better side for 20minutes

Maybe Given wouldn't be making so many mistakes if he didn't have so much to do thanks to us been unable string two passes together....

Duff just doesn't have the sharpness to play at this level anymore.

    Probably not to do damage.

But lets face it, he is a solid premiership performer and still one of our most better players.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,591 ✭✭✭ambid

Steve Staunton and Alan Shearer on BBC 3 are having a contest to see who can mumble in the most monotone voice. It's really exciting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,801 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Watch the goal, Stephen Ward gave the ball away under no pressure at all that led to the corner where Italy scored.

Duff would be a better left full than Ward.

Stick O'Shea inside at centre half with Dunne, and bring Kelly in at right full, bang theres a better defence already.

He stays on his line too much. Afraid or unwilling to go for the ball. He's a shot stopper who can't even do that at this stage.

    ???

You can't really be misinterpreting simple English to that extent?

You laughably said he should retire if he makes a mistake in this game.

Who do you want to replace him?

You understand James McClean can't play in goal?

Just saw that Doyle chance again. Can't help but feel Long/ Walters would have at least tested the keeper. Was very poor by Doyle, showed a real lack of confidence.

Westwood is a very good goalie!

Sadly I am starting to think bringing back Kilbane would improve our defence.

There was a massive clamour for Ward on this forum in September last year.

    That's not splitting hairs.

He was a top keeper at one time, this is a silly argument and the wrong time to judge him.

Please remind yourself of Ireland vs Bulgaria and then think why we didnt qualify as winnerd for the world cup.

Buffon having very little to do. We're so uncreative. When we try (Whelan's horrific pass) we see that this squad can't. But there are more talented players who Trap has consostently overlooked. Trap out.

Kilbane did just that-winger to full back. Could work?
