Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Did not see about this already:-

Mods, if there is already a post delete / merge.

Please Tweet #findjames; email; Facebook; blog; etc.

The search is continuing for a 21-year-old Irish soccer fan who went missing in Poland at the weekend while out socialising with friends.
James Nolan, an environmental engineering student, from Blessington in Co Wicklow was last seen on Saturday night in Bydgoszcz, a town about 130 kilometres north east of Poznan.
His family have issued an appeal for information, saying that his failure to contact them was out of character.
Police in Poland have begun a search for him.
The Department of Foreign Affairs is helping with efforts to locate him.
Anyone with information can contact the Irish consulate in Poznan on 0048-880529105, gardaí or the Department of Foreign Affairs here on 1890-426-700.

Saw his parents and his uncle talking about him on tv last night. His father was in bits, the poor man. Seems that the lad would text or phone home at least once a day, and that no contact is out of character for him.

Hope it turns out that he found some nice girl to shack up with for a few days and turns up soon red faced about the fuss.

Such sad story. Hope the lad is found safe and well.

Hopefully it's something trivial like his phone is lost or battery dead and he's just in a different city or something.

    Sad for his family.

Horrible news, have experienced this myself personally, that time it didn't end well, I hope for all concerned that he found at the very least alive.

I've spread the word via twitter (account with 15k+ followers) so hopefully somebody knows something.

Was shocked to hear of this yesterday as myself and the brother were staying in Bydgoszcz and hung around that square to watch most of the matches there. We avoided the square for the Poland match that night because was packed and it seemed a little edgy before the game. We saw the police out scanning the surrounding area on Sunday night so they must be taking it very seriously. I hope he turns up safe and sound.

Maybe all those kind people in Poznan that loved our fans so much might tweet, fbook it in Polish and get the word out over there.

    Hope James turns up.

The only thing about Sticky threads is that I for one never look at them, I just read the first post below the stickies ( this may just be myself )

Could the title be changed to a different colour or put in caps?

Could a space be put between this sticky and the one below ?

I've just put it all in caps there aswell as adding a icon4.gif before the thread just incase people miss it.

If any other mod wants to change/amend anything feel free to.

I'm not sure if I can change the colour of the printing though.

If it was put as an announcement it would definitely get peoples attention.

Don't know if mods can do that though.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

There is no way to space the threads out AFAIK.

I've made an announcement which is staying up for a month at the moment so it should not be missed.

I wont be able to do that but its something the Admin's would probably be able to help us with.

The 2 main forums in terms of traffic on Boards, are Soccer and After Hours, once its made aware in these two forums we are covering a fairly wide spread section of Boards.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,763 ✭✭✭Jax Teller

Possibly a sighting of him on a train . Just heard on the radio .

Well if possible can you ask an admin?

Actually it might not be no bad thing if every non footy mod, that use the footy forum, puts an announcement up in the forums they mod. Cannot do any harm to do so.

    Done in taxation.

Has this been suggest in the moderators section yet? I don't see any reason why we shouldn't be able to do a site wide notification.....

Think there is a thread in AH as we'll, any chance of getting them merged?

This is a thread in the soccer forum, the other thread is in AH.

Some mods have also put stickies in their respective forums.

The AH thread is a car crash. If it's to be merged it should be cleaned up first.

    Assuming you mean this one

I think it is best to have two links in each forum? Would merging them mean it will only exist in one forum?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,508 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Crinklewood

Meant a link in each forum to the one page.

Just thought it was best to colate all details centrally.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,992 ✭✭✭Shane732

If you look at the one I have in taxation I've put a link to this thread in it.

    I assume that's what you're talking about?

As spockety said the AH thread is ridiculous and it's not getting the attention is deserves there anyway.

On the AH thread, I linked our thread in my post on the AH thread.

Until there is a site wide annonucement every forum is free t sticky or start a thread as they feel fit.

As I said before, the traffic AH and Soccer gets will ensure somebody sees the thread at the very least even if they dont read it fully.

Agree, but if it is him at least his family and friends can give him the send off he deserves. Be worse if he was never found.

just saw this on Eurosport.... terrible news.
A body has been found close to the spot where Ireland fan James Nolan went missing at the weekend.
    67b70cd6d798b2251ff6eed7a25d5406.jpg

Polish television reported the recovery of an as-yet-unidentified man who was pulled from the river Brda in Bydgoszcz.
The body was reportedly found by police divers, who had been searching the river for two days following the disappearance of the 21-year-old Nolan in the early hours of Sunday morning

It certainly seems that the Polish police and authorities have put a huge amount into this search and credit to them for that.

Thoughts are with his family & friends at what must be a horrendous time for them.

Body has been confirmed as James Nolan
Puts the whole bloody football thing in perspective. God rest the poor lad and comfort his family. Heartbreaking.
    R.I.P. :(
