Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Yep, social glue.

You cannot describe a game as a social glue, the same way you cannot describe religion as a social glue. A social glue is something which holds society together for the long term. A game does not hold society together, it like most things will pass in due course, similar to religion. What won't die out is gossip. In evolutionary terms gossip arose as our ancestors needed to find out what others were doing in terms of mating and social status and so gossip became a social glue. Unlike a game, gossip or more directly conversation is a social glue. One of the reasons why message boards are so popular also.

I do agree with you. Although I'm not a vegetarian myself I appreciate your opinion. It's a shame we have to kill so many animals for food. At the risk of sounding hypocritical, I have the upmost respect for vegetarians.:)

de niro hasn't been in a good movie since casino, and that was more to do with the script then him. raging bull, over thirty years ago was probably the last truely excellent performance he gave.

    No offense taken mate.
I was given it on good authority the show gets better. I'm beginning to think otherwise.

What i probably should have said is I dont get why this show even got to a third season, let alone a fifth (as it is now)

Its a brilliant show, superbly acted with really sharp, dry humour scripts, plus some of the women are fab, what's not to like ?

Was walking around SSG last week and all the stalls were out selling paintings the whole way around the outer gates and it made me think of this thread.

I dont get the fuss about Art.

Art in the confined definition of painting or Art in its general definition (literature, drama, music, sculpture, painting, film etc)?

    Ah yes, specifically paintings.

It has just never appealed to me. Now I know these stalls around the green are probably no collection of 'Fine Art'... but a lot of things I was looking at and thinking "give me a brush, some paint and some practice and I could come up with something similar to that"

Others I could tell were far more complicated and difficult, but still just couldn't understand why anyone would be marvelled by it and pay the €3k+ tags on some of them.

When I see in the news about paintings being sold for millions it just baffles me.

Maybe I'm too common. Or the fact that the vast majority of people I've met who are very interested in painted Art are pretentious assh*les (not saying all Art lovers are) is influencing me.

I don't get why a man cannot overcome his ego and take note of the clear signs a woman sends him when she is trying to give him a polite brush off. Boys, it will only lead to your precious ego getting hurt all the more if you don't accept the minor dent of her initial rejection; let it go.

Ok it may be a cliché gripe, but in bank queues where people are waiting to be served only to start filling out their forms at the tellers desk.

This fella at the bank of ireland today, while there was a sizeable queue 10 minutes to closing, starting filling out an obscene amount of cheques and papers at the counter, stuff he brought himself and could have filled out at any time. This drastically slowed down the queue while he took nearly 20 minutes.

He had to walk past all of us and the way out while we gave him death stares

I don't 'get' Bob Dylan? As a matter of fact, I don't 'get' a lot of his ilk, Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, Simon & Garfunkel. Don't get me wrong, I ain't "hatin" for the sake of it, and I'd like to like them but all of their songs sound the same to me. Except the song about Ruben 'Hurricane' Carter, I kinda like that one.

Are you talking about a chicken abandoning it's fertilized egg because otherwise what you're saying doesn't make sense.

An unfertilized hen's egg is basically just its period. No killing involved.
