Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ukraine v England

England XI: Hart, Johnson, Terry, Lescott, Cole; Milner, Parker, Gerrard, Young; Rooney; Welbeck

Ukraine XI: Pyatov, Gusev, Rakitskiy, Khatcheridi, Selin, Yarmolenko, Tymoschuk, Garmash, Konoplyanka, Milevsky, Devic

Not 100% on the Ukrainian line up...

I think this will be very tough for England and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a "shock" defeat.

    That Ukranian lineup is right.

    1-1 or 2-1 to England.

Not going be the easy game that many expect though.

    3 -0 to the neighbours.

    Good luck England :)

    Andy should have started.
I am fully rooting for Ukraine now.

England to win this I reckon. No way they'll be settling for the draw when the reward for doing so will prob be Spain.

Or England's Brave John Terry. Would be my preference.

He shouldn't start ahead of Rooney and Welbeck deserves his place on performances alone plus the fact he's already established a good partnership with Rooney. I also expect a better performance from Young with Welbeck and Rooney starting.

dunno what carroll has to do to keep his place in that team. Arguably the only form forward they had coming into the tournament starts scores gets dropped.

Either way I expect violence, on the field, in the stands or on the streets after this. Sad but I think thats what we'll be talking about tomorrow

He'd probably have to massively reform his game. He doesn't offer as much as either Rooney or Welbeck at his current level.

Hoping Rooney has a good game, England to win by 2 goals

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,066 ✭✭✭Washington Irving

Hodgson doing a Dalglish on Carroll, every time he scores he gets dropped

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,537 ✭✭✭Dave0301

Rooney>>>>>>>>>>>Carroll all day long. Tough for Carroll to be dropped
but was never gonna keep his place ahead of Rooney. The fact that him,
Young and Welbeck have been playing fairly consistently together all season
    probably played a part.

Can't see England losing, could be a tough one for them though and neither
Spain or Italy will be an easy quarter final.

England to win comfortably 3-0 ...Ukraine are a poor team.

England to get the point they need. I'm sure they'll want to win though to avoid Spain.

Ukraine to come into it more as the game goes on. Reasonable chance of an upset here.

and you thought Ireland were only country who cheered before their national anthem was over

Rooney to score early on and England to win 2 or 3 nil.

England seem to be sitting back. This could end in disaster.

Ukraine will never keep that pace up for 90 mins.

    Decent possession from England.

Young and Johnson ( Ukraine seem to be targeting him already ) need to improve drastically from the previous games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,250 ✭✭✭✭briany

Hopefully for England, they don't bottle it. If they get through, they will give Spain or Italy a game.

England are just retreating when Ukraine attack

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,061 ✭✭✭keith16

Some nice build up play from Ukraine, just lacking the final killer ball

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,139 ✭✭✭Red Crow

Gerrard and Parker have been terrible so far.

Ukraine are a poor enough team, but if you give them enough of the ball their confidence will just grow and grow.

    What was Young at there

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,027 ✭✭✭willowthewisp

    Ukraine threatening , big time

Ukraine are gonna grab a goal here

Are Ukraine under orders just to shoot on sight?

Mmm that spell if English possession is well gone. Predict Ukraine to be well on top, with England taking the lead from a set piece late in the half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,555 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

"England rehearse their set-pieces".....insightful stuff from Trevor Steven.
