Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    What a ball by Terry!

Ah Rooney...Andy woulda scored and Rigger is probably screaming that at his TV...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,416 ✭✭✭Jimmy Iovine

Difficult chance for Rooney with him moving away from the ball. Should have gotten it on target though. Looked like he mistimed his jump.

England are such a Hodgson team, think theyll do better in the knockouts tbh against better teams

    They should have started Rooney.

    Ukraine playing very well.

Imagine a team lacking in any real star power just passing it around...

I'd take Milner off anyway, I'm not sure he's even touched the ball.

Johnson has been poor all tournament

Rooney and Welbeck are having to drop way too deep.

He had one cross. It was terrible, way too long. Ger blamed it on no one being at the back post. He hasn't a clue.

Oops, he touched it there again, gave it away.

Rooney having a really poor game.
    Looks way off the pace.

? Tonight's game? Other than a nice FK into the box hasn't been involved, himself and Parker are being over ran in the middle

He needs to play to babysit Glen Johnson.

Young, Johnson and Milner bloody awful, offer nothing. Rooney way off the boil. Very poor game so far.

You do get the feeling Ukraine may have shot their load in the first half.
England poor but level. If Ukraine dont score in the first fifteen of the second half id expect them to fade and England come into it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,323 ✭✭✭Savman

A lot of England bashing, deservedly, but no credit for Ukraine? They have taken the game to the England team making them look very average.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,337 ✭✭✭✭monkey9

Ukraine really should be leading. English need just a draw and are playing for it!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Gerrard is the only one keeping England at all threatening, Rooney is having exactly the sort of game one would expect frankly, hard to know if Hodgson should stick or twist at half time. Milner is a waste of space, Group Cpt Parker also not making any positive contribution.

What's the bets that England will somehow scrape a result from this despite being completely outplayed.

What happens if this game and the France/Sweden game both end in a draw? England and France go thru to the Q/F's right?

    This is an awful game!!

Really? I'm loving it. Ukraine are a joy to watch. Not a star among them, but they're all good on the ball and confident. Really tense scenario too with them needing to win.

Well considering Ukraine have outplayed them for 45 mins but hardly created any more than half-chances I'd say the chances are fairly high.

Think Ukraine will unfortunately fade after the hour and England will then score a couple imo. Ukraine have been poor in the middle third and don't look remotely like scoring. Need to introduce Sheva really if anyway fit

He's launched a few cross field/down the middle balls to play England into threatening positions. His passing has been excellent, I can only recall him playing one poor pass, and that was debatable. It's not his fault his team mates are kicking it away.

But yea, let's not let a good performance by Gerrard get in the way of some good old fashioned, anti-English bigotry.

Someone shoot that fúcker with the tamboreen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,508 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Crinklewood

Gerrard had been decent on the ball, not doing to much to break down play though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,255 ✭✭✭Renn

Opta Stat: The last time England failed to have a shot on target in the first half of a game at the Euros was in 1980 (vs Italy).

    Well this isn't great.

Pretty confident that England will get a goal second half but can't see us not conceding as well.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,326 ✭✭✭RoryMac

    Woy could be Trap's love-child.

Overrun in midfield, forwards dropping back to help out, relying on set-peices, disappointing from England.

Ukraine have looked good but think the may have burnt themselves out, hopefully England push on a bit 2nd half and make a bit more of a game of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,255 ✭✭✭Renn

Although you could say Young's shot was on target I guess.

Rooney should be replaced at HT

Huysev has been a real problem, Southgate's analysis of him on ITV has been excellent.

The wingers and Devych look sharp today.

England need Walcott and Ox on ASAP.

Ukraine tidy on the ball but not too much threat really. Don't know if England will push on for the win but I think if they bring a bit more pace on they'll win comfortably.

Scrappy with nothing happening really, Ukraine the better side and yarmalenko the best on the pitch. Neither have threatened and hasent been a defensive masterclass either.

With the injury I wonder would Walcott be able to play at full capacity. I reckon they will leave him on the bench, and might risk him if they concede.

Have England ever beaten a host nation in a finals? I just went back in my mind and I couldn't think of one.
