What was going on at Christcurch today?

Just passed through Christchurch turning right out towards Clanbrassil St from James St and the guards had half of both sides of the road closed and there was a load of people just standing on the footpath looking on, but I couldn't see a thing happening. Any ideas or was I just missing something major?!

Not sure, possibly a funeral though. I could hear a piper playing laments for a good chunk of the evening.
