Hi ok smyths have the xl and are offering 115 for your 3ds this weekend only so xl will cost you 110 rather than 130 in GameStop!!!!

Any idea about Smyths procedure for content transfer from 3DS to XL?

any news on what the bundles are going to be without trading in Im thinking of going for the hmv 210 euro but Im wondering how much extra the console + a game would be, also anyone know if Stores will be selling them instore tomorrow?

Its 205 for just the console. At a rough guess, you'd be paying 220 for the console and a game, and another ten for a charger.

I heard in HMV today it will be €230 for an XL, Art Academy and the charger.

€249.99 for the same in Gamestop.

gamestop is best bet for tomorrow aka system tranfer im not losing all my ambassador games

Still listed on the Game website anyway. Will find out on Saturday when I'm down there. I usually visit there, HMV, CEX and Cashmaker to see the games.
£100 trade in for the 3DS isn't too bad. Get the XL for £79.99 and they allow you to transfer your 3DS data, as you would expect

So has anyone picked this up anywhere in Dublin yet? I have my boxed 3DS with me to trade in, I haven't pre-ordered anywhere.

So if I go to gamestop and trade in just the 3DS it'll cost me €129 but if I have a game from that list I can get it for €99 is that right?

Yup, that's the deal. I haven't preordered, didn't think the demand was high enough.

I have an Ambassador 3DS...can I transfer the contents to a new 3DSXL?

yes, if the shop will let you do it. Gamestop apparently will, HMV I would think are less likely.

Here, how long does a system transfer take? If you have a smart phone that allows data tethering/hotspot mode and your 3DS in your pocket is it feasible to perform the transfer at the counter? Any word on whether the XL requires a system update before performing the transfer a la 3DS regular?

It takes about 20 minutes, depending on how much data you have on the original 3DS. I'd feel a little weird standing in the shop for 20 minutes while it does it...

Look at it this way - feel weird standing around like a lemon for 20 mins while a shop you've just given a wad of cash to gets on with it's business or spend the next 4 years of the handsets operational life thinking "crap! Why didn't I transfer those damned games!" Screw the shop. The shop doesn't care. The shop staff are being paid to not offend you so if they say anything you can ask to speak to their manager / say "tell you what, give me back that money, I'm taking my weirdo business elsewhere!". You don't know the customers so you shouldn't care if you're putting them off.

Also, on the offchance a customer walks over and says "hey! Weirdo! Why are you standing there doing nothing for the last 20 minutes?" you might find that after you explain it to them they realise that they don't have to lose all of their eShop games to trade up to the 3DS XL and now you can pass the mantle of shop lemon over to them. Maybe you can start a chain of shop lemons? Print some tshirts!

As for the idea that you could leave the shop, come back and it would still be there... what is this, communist Cuba? Actually, maybe it is <insert link to Fidel Castro's "What trillion dollar bill?" Simpsons clip when time allows...>

Good point and well made!

I'm sure most of us have spent more than 20 minutes hanging around a gamestop shop before anyway! I always like to check all of the pre-owned games in case there might be a bargain.

Would HMV do the account transfer? I just rang 3 different Gamestop stores and I was told they aren't doing account transfers because they don't have an internet connection.

Also one of them told me that I wouldn't have to transfer the account, I could just download my account when I get home with my new 3DS! When I told him this was wrong and corrected him he didn't believe me until his colleague who overheard him corrected him as well!!

They do have a wifi connection in stores(every store I've been to, anyway) but I think it'd be down to the discretion of the staff member serving.

You could, but again, its down to the staff member as to whether they'll let you take it out the box and what not. I think you'd be alright though.

Apparently the XL doesn't come with the latest firmware. Something to be aware of.

Yeah I was just reading that as well, other people were saying they had to setup a wifi hotspot and it took well over an hour! I only get an hour for lunch!!

I wonder would I be better off just buying a 3DSXL and transferring my account at home? Then trade in the old 3DS for cash, anyone know what the trade in prices are for a boxed 3DS?

I asked in my local gamestop about transferring content from 3DS to XL (I have all the ambassador games, plus about 15 I paid for myself). She said I could buy the XL, pay €130 for the 3DS (almost like a security deposit), take both away and bring back the 3DS when I'm finished (and they give the €130 back).

That's only possible if you can afford it though, really. And I could afford that, but I don't know if I trust gamestop 100% to actually give me the money back Its a tough decision really, I have the ambassador games on my own system, and I'm not giving them up for convenience.

Edit - sainsburys are apparently selling them for 160 pounds. Not bad at all.

If anyone is looking for a game to buy on the cheap to trade in with your 3DS I picked up Super Street Fighter IV for the 3DS for €16 pre-owned in HMV on Grafton Street, they had a few more copies of it as well.

Picked up a lovely Blue 3DS XL in HMV this morning along with a charger and a copy of Kid Icarus Uprising for €229.99. Really impressed with it so far. It's very comfortable to hold and the screens are fantastic. Glad I waited for the XL instead of getting the original, even though those Ambassador titles would have been pretty nice.

Sorry I don't remember seeing any cases, but I wasn't looking to be honest so I could have missed them. Might be worth calling HMV to ask?
