    Updated mobo to latest 1.70 software and now all is well!!
    Thanks to all for your help.

    Very strangely i am now trying to fix another pc that has just stopped booting yesterday...
    No vga output on power up even though all fans spin up. 3 beeps from mobo, repeated ad nauseaum with a 20 sec break or so in btw...
    Odd!!
