Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How Many Countries Have You Travelled To??

Only 8 (not including the many parts of Ireland), thought it would have been more! I've been to some of them several times though and have travelled around others, eg. I've spent time in about 15 Spanish cities (incl. the Balearics, have family there so have been multiple times), 9 French ones, 6 American ones (in California and Nevada), 3 Belgian ones and 2 English ones - as well as one visit each to Wales, Northern Ireland and Cyprus.

I'm only 20 though, so it's probably not too shabby an amount. I have so many places that I want to visit, just need to get a job again and save up the money first!

EDIT: Are we counting Gibraltar separately? Then it's 9...

Started in 1989 apart from Ireland and the UK. Some of it was work, some pleasure, I've done a few major road trips to Africa lasting several months each, Interrailed for a couple of months, hitched a lot when i lived in Germany and worked all over Eastern Europe in the 1990's.

I just noticed I left out Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia so that makes 69, I also sat at the immigration post on the border to enter China for a day but never made it as the visa was wrong.:(

I've had stop over flights in Cape Verde and Cyprus but don't count them.

Seems to be a fairly few recurring themes here. At a guess it would appear that most Irish people have been to every country in the British Isles, Spain, Italy and/or France and the USA. Then you've probably gone to one or two other European countries, but after that it seems pretty random.

I have been to Italy and Spain, but I am only 20 years of age so there is plenty of time to travel in the future.

...My suspicion is that Irish people are better travelled than British people.

... I'm not so interested in where you've travelled, but how many nations/states/territories you've travelled.

... obviously I'd like to be more travelled. How about you guys??

    Seriously, you're doing it wrong.
Where you go is more important that how many places, how long you spend, and what you do there.

I know a girl whos been to maybe 20 countries. Shes one of the least traveled people I know because all she does is go to Irish bars and sit on the beach.

Also, I'd say someone who has been to Japan for 2 years is far more travelled than someone who has been to England, Scothland, NI and Wales for a weekend each - but by your system the "score" would be 4:1.

Final point in my rant - I went travelling once with a guy I would describe as a tick the box tourist. He want to see the main attractions and move on from each city in like a day or two, then brag to fellow travellers about how many places he had been. I caught him once counting a country he'd only been in the airport of en route somewhere else!

I started a heated debate on a similar subject here.

    I've been to:
    1. NI
    2. France
    3. Spain
    4. Hungary
    5. Poland
    6. New York
    7. Washington D.C (I traveled through the states in between, but I won't count them
    8. Scotland
    9. England
    10. Wales
Decent amount of travelling for a 20 year old. My favorite would either be Budapest or London, because I didn't go there with family.

Don't want to make a list cos this is not a pissing contest, but I'd like to visit 100 countries before I'm 30. About 4 years and 3 months years to go and I'm less than half way there, so I need to get moving on it.

I have a sibling who works with a global airline and family members get to travel very cheaply, so I'm hoping it's achievable.
