    hi there

i am looking for a laptop for my dad

he just needs firefox, vlc, office suite, skype and cd burning software oh and photo editing/slideshow s/w.

he has had 2 laptops previously, one running vista and the other windows 7.

i am living in uk and he is in cork, and since he has been using windows, they have always given trouble, and need fixing,

so now i am looking to do one of two things:

    1. buy him a laptop with linux preinstalled/ -> linux out of the box

    2. buy a laptop with windows already on it, that I know for sure I can get drivers for, that will work 100% with linux ubuntu

can someone please guide me to where I could buy such a linux laptop, or please recommend a website where I could find specific laptop which are easy to find 'driver packs' for use of another word

    thanks!

Get a system free from pcspecialist.co.uk and install linux.
Just make sure you pick intel wifi and intel graphics card (on-board)

If you do get one from pcspecialist it will have a test version of W7 on it that they appear to use for system testing prior to dispatch. You just need to format the whole disk when installing Linux.

True, I've no idea what was installed, but there was a system on the laptop that I bought. A linux livecd solved the problem :)

    Hi eurotrotter.

What did you opt for in the end?

    Did you look here?
