    Interesting stuff, I really like that show he does actually, Great British Train Journeys. Its based on a guidebook published during Victorian times which gave reviews of various sights in the towns and cities linked by train lines at the time.

    They must doing a version based in Ireland (obviously), theres plenty of train stations in the country that date back from Victorian and Edwardian times.

    He's got Spanish/English parents - interesting story there - his family split during the 36-39 civil war, his father was a republican and decided to leave rather than live under Franco rule.

    here's the Waterford Today article

    http://www.waterford-today.ie/waterford-today-news/17054-bbc-2-crew-film-at-waterford-and-suir-valley-railway-17054.html

    ==========================================================

    There was great excitement at Kilmeadan Station on Sunday 24th June when the volunteers at Waterford & Suir Valley Railway welcomed the BBC television crew for "Great British Railway Journey’s Goes to Ireland".
    The Great British Railway Journey is a BBC 2 television programme following politician and broadcaster Michael Portillo’s journey as he travels the length and breadth of Britain by train using Bradshaw’s Guide. Bradshaw is best known for developing the most successful and longest published series of combined railway timetables. The series is as much about the about the places Michael visits as the train journey.
    The crew is in Ireland for ten days to film "Great British Railway Journey’s Goes to Ireland". They will film in Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Cork and Waterford to make five programmes for the BBC. Waterford & Suir Valley Railway will feature in the Waterford programme.
    Maria Kyte, Business Development Manager for the railway said "This is a fantastic opportunity to promote County Waterford to the British holiday market. It is watched by millions in Britain and is the tenth most watched programme on BBC 2." She continued, "We could not have asked for a better evening to film as the tide was in on the River Suir and the sun sparkled on the water, showing the beauty of County Waterford countryside at its best. Mr Portillo was a charming man as he mingled and chatted with everyone at the station."
    Michael and the crew followed the journey of what was originally known as the Duke’s line from Kilmeadan Station in to Bilberry, showing the magnificent scenery en route. He was particularly interested in the history of the line and the link with William Cavendish, 7th Duke of Devonshire, who was the main shareholder of the Waterford, Dungarvan, Lismore Railway Company. Michael got off in Bilberry to continue his journey in to Waterford City.
    The programme "Great British Railway Journey’s Goes to Ireland" will be broadcast in January and February 2013.
