Romantic coastal accommodation in Donegal?

    Hi,

I posted over here looking for somewhere next to water where we could spend time together for a while. We were going to spend a month abroad but that's increasingly unlikely so it's more than probable that we'll be spending that month in Ireland now.

Having never really had a holiday in the north, and having seen some amazing coastal photos of Donegal, I'm hoping some people here with local knowledge might have suggestions.

The standard of accommodation is important as is the existence of decent restaurants nearby. But it could be a really nice self-catering cottage or a good-quality hotel. As both of us want to improve our Irish, if it's in an Irish-speaking area and somewhere where we can hear traditional music that would be a bonus and probably induce us to stay for all of our available time.

    Thanks for any feedback.

http://www.castlemurray.com/ is a beautiful, romantic setting at the edge of the Atlantic. Food is fantastic and the rooms are lovely, I think there are just ten rooms in all so you are guaranteed the personal touch. However it would be expensive for an extended stay. There is plenty of traditional music nearby. The Irish language wouldn't be spoken hugely in the area.

http://www.rathmullanhouse.com/ is another option. I don't know much about the area though.

    :)

Danny Minnies, good restaurant & accommodation; Caisleáin Óir, small hotel with good food served, both in Annagry beside the Carrickfinn airport. Leo's bar (home of Clannad & Enya) is only a few minutes away with Hudi Beags in Gweedore 10 minutes. There are many places dotted along the coastline of Donegal, these just happen to be beside me, other posters will no doubt point out a few others. Move around and enjoy them all..

Book a cottage for you stay, would be cheaper than a hotel and there are loads to choose from. http://www.donegalcottageholidays.com/

http://www.ostangweedore.com/ - takes some beating. Amazing food, gorgeous views, romantic walks on the beach. I love it.
