Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Blonde to blonder?

Sorry if the answer to this is posted elsewhere but when I search I keep getting blonde jokes

I have what hairdressers call 'champagne blonde' hair - fancy talk for pretty much gone brown I suppose!

I used to use Movida semi-permanent Blonde No. 5 for years to get it blonde - it was a lovely yellow-blonde colour. Then the stopped making it. I tried alternative semis and permanents but they all left me with an orangey-blonde colour.

For my wedding 2 years ago I started highlighting my hair and have been ever since. But I changed to a job with lower wages (and better quality of life lol) and the cost of highlighting is becoming a bit much. Also I hate spending all day in a salon chair!

Recently I couldn't afford a trip to the salon so I tried a home-dye again. I thought it might work L'Oreal Perfect Blonde Maximum Lightening Creme. It actually brightened up my highlights really nicely but my regrowth went orangey-blonde again.

Basically I want to know is there any way to achieve similar results at home, or at least a yellow or white blonde sans-orange, not really fussed about the shade as long as it doesn't go carrotty. Can't understand how I used to be able to manage this at home but not anymore!

I heard there is a dye called Extreme Ice or something but can't find it, must have the name wrong. Has anyone used this or have any advice please?

Unfortunately, dyed blonde hair is hard work and it's virtually impossible to maintain at home unless you're very fair as it is and only going up one or two shades. If you've been getting taken up a lot at the hairdressers than none of the home products are going to have enough peroxide in them to maintain the shade and this is why you're going orangey/brassy.

There isn't really much of a compromise to be made with blonde, unfortunately - if you can't afford the upkeep, then perhaps its time to consider going a bit darker. Otherwise you're going to end up with a home-produced shade you hate anyway.

I have naturally dark blonde hair and get it highlighted from time to time.. and any products I have ever tried to brighten my hair or keep it lighter for longer inevitably left me with copper colour hair.

If you get lowlights too it will keep your hair from growing out as obviously, or else try a school of hairdressing which will cost less- or just get a T-Bar or half head of highlights to cut down on time/money.

I'm sure someone else will have better advice! But just be very cautious of home colours, you don't want to pay a fortune at the hairdressers trying to undo the damage!
