    Hi all,

I am setting up a niche consultancy business which will be marketed to business advisor's (accountants, tax advisor's and solicitors) as well as directly to business owners. I have registered the generic term as a domain name EXAMPLE forensicaccounting.ie (This is NOT my domain and is just an example) but it has parallels with the service I'll be offering as it is a specialist business service which could result in the provision of expert witness testimony in court.

At the moment I have set up a company called "Irish Forensic Accounting Ltd" (substitute "Forensic Accounting" for the actual service I'll be offering) and registered "Irish Forensic Accounting" as a trading name. I was advised that this would be well received by advisors and potential clients as it differentiates my business from the big international advisory firms who also offer the same service as part of their portfolio of services, it reinforces the fact that the business is a specialised local business focused on serving Irish clients and it will perform well in terms of SEO but others have said using the term "Irish" in the name is parochial, presumptuous and could be counter productive. One of those people suggested changing "Irish" to "Independent" as independence is an important part of the service I'll be offering but I'm not sure "Independent Forensic Accounting Ltd" t/a "Independent Forensic Accounting Services with www forensicaccounting.ie as the domain name will work as well as "Irish Forensic Accouning Ltd" t/a "Irish Forensic Accounting Serivces" with www forensicaccounting.ie as the domain name.

I see the marketing sub section is closed so I hope some of the marketing guru's will read and respond to this thread.

    Cheers,

    Ben

    Hi Ben

I suggest you get the domain name ''whatyoudo.ie'', rather than ''irishwhatyoudo.ie'', if you get me. In other words, get, for example, ''expertwitness.ie''. It say ''we're Irish'', because you have the .ie, but it doesn't scream it, I think it steers a middle course.

The ''what you do'' part of the potential domain name may be taken, in which case you are back to square one, but hopefully what I say makes sense.

    Hi Eamon,

Thanks for your thoughts. That's actually what I alrewady have in place. Using your example I already have expertwitness.ie registered, the question I'm pondering is whether the trading name should be "Irish" expert witness services or "Independent" witness services.

PS I already have the company name registered as Irish XXXX XXXX Ltd but that's easy enough to change to Independent XXXX XXXX Ltd if there is a compelling reason to switch.
