    I bought a custom built desktop and I would like to upgrade this, I am a total beginner I no I need to upgrade the Intel? Is it possible to make my windows pc into a mac also by upgrading

    I think nearly all atom CPUs are soldered into the motherboard so there's not really any hope of upgrading that.

    1GB RAM is very poor by today's standards. You might have one or two slots or one that you can upgrade here.
    Give CPU-Z a run. Links are on the right hand side.

    When that opens, take a look at the 'motherboard' tab and copy down the details, specifically the model number. That may give us a hint as to how upgradable it is.

    Second thing that might be worth upgrading is to a solid state drive (SSD). This is essentially very fast storage so that all your programs open quickly. They're expensive for the size but fine if you just need office programs.

    Finally, I think you should upgrade the operating system (OS). Windows 7 is a nice OS and would be much better than XP if you get the SSD. Still, you'd need a bit more RAM so it depends on that first.

    You wouldn't get lion on it. You can get lion on sandy, ivy and a few mobile cpus, then all the cpus that have been used in an apple product (intel based only, of course.)

    For 200 quid you won't be looking at something that can run osx

    Of course windows 7 won't be responsive when there's just 1GB of RAM. I've tried it myself with that and even 2GB makes a lot of difference. 4GB is a good figure to go for though.

    That's a weak system in all. It's meant only for very light work, or even just for use as a home theatre PC.

    I think if you want a good snappy office PC, your money would be best spent on getting a new system, something like Skylinehead has recommended, although you'd want a budget of at least around €300 for a complete build.

    If you really want to continue with your existing system, you are fairly limited. Well, the CPU is un-upgradable anyway.
    You could go with SSD + RAM + Windows 7. RAM at 2GB isn't ideal for graphic design, it's enough for desktop and office use but I think you might run into trouble depending on your exact work. The SSD would make a huge difference to the responsiveness of the system. However, if your system is the small nettop kind, there might only be the space for the one hard drive. Since SSDs are small in capacity and if you're working with a lot of photos or pictures, you'll need additional storage - you could use your old hard drive with an enclosure and plug it in as a USB drive.

    I've ran windows 7 ultimate with 512MB ram wasn't terribly fast but if you disable a lot of the Aero features and use basic visuals it can be done...tho i wouldn't recommend it....
