Just a post for fun to see if anybody can come up with things that movie stars do in the public eye that's not related to movies.

Here is my post to start off.

Keanu Reeves was the bassist in the band Dogstar, they weren't very well known:

A slightly more well known band, Pantom Planet, had Jason Schwartzman as their drummer:

I'm always amazed when comparing the televisual output of Beat Takeshi with the cinematic output of Takeshi Kitano.

How the heck is the host of Takeshi's Castle also the star & director of Hana-Bi?! Only in Japan!

There are quite a few actors with musical cred, such as Tim Robbins, a very good singer/songwriter - as showcased in Bob Roberts. He has toured Europe a few times, IIRC he played a few gigs in Ireland last year.

Harrison Ford is famous for his second career as a carpenter: he always had that to fall back on, and it got him in front of George Lucas when he did work on one of Lucas' sets.

I read that Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) is a "house flipper" in his spare time: buys houses, does them up, and sells them at a profit.

But the weirdest one I ever heard was Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar, House), who left House suddenly to go and work for President Obama as Associate Director in the White House Office of Public Engagement. (The House producers were not pleased and had his character shoot himself.) Penn has been in and out of the White House a couple of times, and is now co-chair on Obama's re-election campaign.

Ye Hypocrites, are these your pranks
To murder men and gie God thanks?
Desist for shame, proceed no further
God won't accept your thanks for murder.

    ―Robert Burns

Steven Seagal fights crime for free

    seagalx.jpg

On the big screen, he has been Out for Justice, Under Siege and Above the Law. Now, the action star is the law on A&E channel's Steven SeagalLawman (premiering tonight, 10 ET/PT).

Seagal has quietly served as an unpaid reserve deputy in Louisiana's Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office since the mid-'80s, when he befriended the late Sheriff Harry Lee. But Seagal's law enforcement career is no longer under the radar.

That's all stuff they did before they became famous. I think the OP means stuff that they do now, despite being famous actors.

Like Martin Sheen getting a BA in English from NUIG in about 2007...

Jared Leto fronts 30 seconds to mars of course with his drummer brother Shannon. I read somewhere that he thinks of himself as a musician first and foremost.

George Lucas was primarily interested in car racing during his youth. He was involved in a serious car accident in 1962 that seemed to refocus himself into film. He still follows racing and does a little bit himself at a friendly level.

Steven Speilberg is a huge fan of video games in his rec time. Has been known to buy all the consoles down the years (and even various coin-op machines).
