I was hoping to get people's view on this type of process. I believe the introduction of plastic/cosmetic surgery has been a gift for some but a curse for others. It has the ability to reconstruct a child's nose that may have been lost in an accident but it can also give some Malibu princess her set of 32FF she's always dreamed of. I wish the use of cosmetic surgery could only be attained in the event that it was necessary and that recreational abuse of the surgery was banned. Michael Jackson would probably still be alive and still black!

    What are people's thoughts?

Vitiligo is genetic and he died of a group of doctors' stupid decision to use anaesthetic to treat insomnia so probably not to both.

There are many things about myself I'm not happy with.
Then there's my boobs - I hate them - I have always hated them.
I don't think most people get it.

Say you really don't like your nose, but you can live with it all the same - you don't feel less of a man/woman, you don't feel you need to hide it away all the time - it's just something that you would rather were different.
I think in these cases - you need to just accept it - learn to love it, whatever.
But if you are really badly affected by some part of you - and it's not something you can change yourself, then go for it.

I will be getting a boob job when I can afford it.
My husband doesn't have any problem with my boobs, neither does anyone else - It's purely something I need to do, for me.

I think people who get liposuction are just lazy in most cases - just go on a diet and exercise like everyone else ffs.

If someone wants to change something about themselves and they have the money, what harm is?

Reconstructive plastic surgery is essential to rebuild lives after accidents, burns etc and has nothing to do with vanity.

I have no problem with cosmetic surgery - if someone is unhappy with, or fixates on a particular feature, by all means change it.

The problem with cosmetic surgery is that some people believe changing a feature will change their life or become addicted. Changing a feature will not improve low self-esteem, in fact it may lead some people to believe more changes are necessary. In the case of body-dysmorphic disorder it can become a life-long obsession - Michael Jackson being the perfect example, a good looking man who turned himself into a freak show.

Cosmetic surgery is not regulated in Ireland and some other countries - any doctor can set up as a cosmetic surgeon and practise without any specialised training or experience. It really is a case of buyer beware. As it is surgery, it involves in most cases, general anaesthesia and therefore risk.

I wouldn't rule it out in the future and am not against it, but would research where I choose to have surgery.

The only plastic surgery that fascinates me is Vagina surgery.
Some women get the curtains closed you know, and it can look prettier.

I am aware that money matters, but I just believe that all that time spent by surgeons doing face lifts could be used helping those people that actually need it.

Cosmetic surgery is private so it's not taking from general hospital funding - it's unlikey all these doctors would be paid to do conventional surgery by the HSE.

Plastic surgery is necessary and is available when needed through the HSE.
