Gonna take a monumental effort from Italy to do this. Spain are a magnificent side. Best international team I've ever seen.

Italy need to change something, I'd go back to the 3-5-2 system, bring on Maggio for Abate and slot De Rossi to centre half.

It's certainly not game over, plenty of time.

Spain have been very very good tonight. Best they've played in quite a while.

Depends what you define as boring.

Spain -Italy group match was possibly the game of the tournament.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,909 ✭✭✭Neeson

It's not that it's boring but I'm just sick to death of looking at them winning. Pass pass, tire the opposition and then it's a one team game. Crap from a neutral view. Better if both teams were attacking. Italy can't because when they get the ball they are tired. Which is great for Spain but kind of boring to look at in that it's one sided.

Ireland only letting in 4 looks like a bargain now .

It's certainly not game over, plenty of time.

20-1 for the draw after 90 minutes. 50-1 for an Italy win in 90.

That's as close to game over in a 2 horse race as you can get.

Now that's more like it from Spain. A brilliant half of football. A joy to watch.

Last time Spain threw away 2 goal lead?

    1994 WC vs Sth Korea.

50-1 doesn't look like attractive odds really.

If the first goal had something of the lucky about it (Silva just happened to be in the way of the cut back really) the second was sublime stuff. Thankfully Spain have decided to play a game of football rather than just pass it about a lot.

I'd love to say Italy are not out of it but every inch of my gut says they are.

And this spanish team are far better, and much harder to score against.

yep.he is in my opinion. so intelligent and the crispest right footed passer ive seen. he is a joy.

"xavi you will one day replace me, but watch out for this kid,he will retire all of us"- pep guardiola re: andreas iniesta

"we just got beaten by the best player in the world"- waye rooney in dressing room after champions league final in wembley.talking about iniesta not messi

both quotes from graham hunters book-"barca the making of the greatest team in the world"

i will never on an level understand how people hate on barca/spain.

its the oppostion who dictate if it will be boring or not.italy came to play hence the nice showing.if you park the bus theyll nick one and pass you o death. it aint their fault

this is like a training match.

    Ireland should be chuffed.

Quite simply, different class. Best team playing the best football. All Italy can do is hoof the ball forward and hope to score from a corner. Who says u need a striker, Spain and Barca have thrown old-school tactics out the window.

    No doubt.

Though Italy are probably stronger than Sth Korea circa 1994.

Can't see past a majestic Spainish victory, though football has sometimes surprised me in the past.

even though we got stuffed at least we can say that we played against the greatest international team of all time

No. Ireland should be trying to fix the problems that led to that disaster.

Remember - just like the last euros we got to the finalists came from our group. Difference is, we had real, real quality in 88. Now we have a Championship - level team.

Can see Alba slotting in perfectly at Barca .

Italy should go 352 now nothing to lose need more down the wings

Exactly, spain are just strangling the midfield and waiting to break when Italy lose position. You can't lay through a midfield with 10 men (Including the 4 Italians) in it ffs, the only was to get through it is to go around it.

I also think crosses into the box for Balotelli would put the ****s up Pique and Ramos too.

I think Trap will point out that we were beaten by the 2 finalists, so will Delaney because he extended his contract and no doubt we'll continue on as normal. Delaney with his 400k a year and idiot fans thinking he's a legend because he handed out a few cans of carlsberg.

Just watching the first goal again there, is it just me or did Cheilini already look to be limping and not fully fit?

He had a grade 1 muscle tear and played a full game after a week or so, that's not enough time to recover.

If he wasn't fully fit he shouldn't have played.

Both these teams are shite, Ireland would beat either of them.
