Yep, 6 story lift and then a walk amongst the Oak canopy to the 18th tee box, felt like first day in Magic Kingdom, mad!

    Some view, isn't it.

Its very good alright, the bit of elevation makes some difference. You actually get a pretty good view of most of the middle nine holes from up there.

Moate GC was looking well today.

Looking well. Are they putting in a new green on the 8th? Are they still going to change the tee box for the 9th?

Yes Charlie, we had problems on the existing 8th green over the last few winters it was getting very wet and tall trees were shading it so growth was poor - as you know it's in quite a hollow anyway. We replaced the turf and we are just back playing on it last few weeks but it had already been decided to clear out the trees that were behind it and put in an entirely new green. Should be ready next year. Same goes (hopefully) for a new 9th tee box which will go up behind where that new 8th green is and will cut out that cross over we have at 8th fairway / 9th tee box. Will make the 9th a much trickier hole as you will have to keep left to avoid OOB / trees down the right. :)

Excellent stuff, that cross over was a bit of a pain alright.

Going to be a very tough tee shot on 9 now if its behind that new green, are players going to be tempted to go over some of the trees? Won't be driveable any more then?

  • Registered Users Posts: 48,742 ✭✭✭✭Wichita Lineman

I'd say it will be driveable alright but it will just need to be a very straight hit to find the green. I might be down there Thursday and I'll have a look from where the new tee box will be and see what I think then.

There were a couple of hick ups with the greens in recent years but definitely turned a corner and on the road to top class. Hosting the Irish close later this year and there shouldn't be any complaints. I live two minutes away from it and what a facility to have on your doorstep. Now if only my golf would match the quality of the course...

Just a quick shot from Rathcore this afternoon, a really nice course, very enjoyable to play, plenty of short par 4's that make you think as great use of water

Scary looking tee shot. There's no way I would take on that line over the edge of the hotel. More like try take it over the rough on the left and pray I make it to the other fairway.
