    The Australian government website.

    immi.gov.au

For flights iv found the best price on expedia. But check price comparision websites like momondo.com and skyscanner.net

ya dont bother with the likes of usit who will just rip you off. The visa is really easy to fill out, the exact link is on this page

    http://www.immi.gov.au/e_visa/working-holiday.htm

It cost 280 aus dollars so a LOT cheaper than usit.

Do USIT sort out your bank a/c and the equivalent of your PPS number or how hard is it to do yourself?

  • Registered Users Posts: 571 ✭✭✭podgie.

it same as opening a bank account in Ireland. you just go on to the banks website and fill out the form, give them your passport number, when you arrive in OZ show them your passport to verify who you are. that easy. you can transfer money into the account but can't withdraw money till you visit the bank with your passport,

as regard the tax number, it standard enough form, you will get the form on the government website, fill it out, the only thing that would stand in your way of getting a tax number is that you need a OZ address for them to post it too (use a friends Oz address and you will be fine).

you can easily do both yourself and don't need a company to do it for you,

I booked with Seat and got a very good deal - (although I agree with other users on thread about bank a/c and tax number -) travel agents are very useful if booking connecting flights e.g stoping in Thsiland ! Also Saet visa is only 10/20 euro extra than if u did it yourself - I personally believe this is worth it ! Takes away any risk of filling out forms incorrectly and visa process very quick - got mine within 48 hours

Hey Jem, you want backpacker travel insurance about €150 for 12mths. there not much difference from one travel insurance company to the next. google "backpacker travel insurance" and you get a list of companies

Visa from the goverment itself,..> https://www.ecom.immi.gov.au/visas/applyNow.do?form=WHM cost you about €230-240. you will have your visa in about 10 minutes if you have never been in trouble and have no health issues.

    flights from http://www.skyscanner.ie

I went with Saet - one way flight 594 - 3 weekstop over in Thailand

    Visa was 240/250

    Insurance was 150

Definetly agree with others about Bank a/c and tax number But would recommend letting them do their visa ! Extra 10 but removes any risk (as minimal as this is)

is it ok to book a one way flight? or do u need to have a return to go to oz

  • Registered Users Posts: 571 ✭✭✭podgie.

you don't need to have a returned flight, you maybe asked to prove that you have the funds to pay for a return flight if needed. the cost of flight from OZ is very costly, if you want to say money in the long run, it best to have a returned flight booked,

I wrote to USIT and they told me that if I only book a one way that ya will need about $7000 in your bank account...

That is unreal, I think they could be just using a bit of scare tactics there and its really unprofessional IMO.

There is no legal obligation to have a return ticket.

If you plan on doing the 3 months regional work so you can get a second visa what would the point be of getting a return flight?

I could be wrong but it was my understanding you can't book a flight that far in advance.

yeah its so stupid like, but i think ya can get an open return or whatever its called...
i'm plannin on heading to oz now next month and definitely not getting a return because its just a waste of money if your planning on staying on..

+1 firstly it's 5k and secondly it is access to rather than 5k. i.e. Your parents, credit card, you don't actually need 5k

where on the Oz government site is the actual form you fill in?

  • Registered Users Posts: 571 ✭✭✭podgie.

Thats the WHV one anyway.. >> http://www.immi.gov.au/e_visa/working-holiday.htm click on the links on the right side of the page for the visa form.

I guess it was that one you were looking for, it not lets us know and someone will get the right form for you, if ya can't find it on the government site.

yeah that's what i was looking for but can't figure out where the actual form is, all the links just seem to go to other info pages, not an actual form.

some links now go to a page that says the site is down for maintenance, i tried a lot of links earlier but no forms, just more info pages etc.
wonder is this anything to do with the maintenance or am i being an idiot & not finding it

do the name of the link that goes to the form?

If I ever want to return to OZ do I have to do the 3 months regional work? Or is that just if you want to extend the current visa by one year?

Holiday no you can come anytime.
To work - yes you'll need a working visa
