Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just enjoying a few music videos on YouTube, with my headphones on. I've noticed lately that the odd one or two have extremely loud Japanese adverts tagged on before the start. Nearly at eardrum bursting volume. What in the jaysus is that about ?

    You Tube is free

So the adverts pay for the right to watch music videos

    That's fine by me

Best extension I ever downloaded. Youtube used to have random detol ads playing on the side with sound in it that ruined videos. Also noticed some pages had ads with just a voice and no video with no way to shut it up.

Yes the adverts are a minor irritation but are worth it if Youtube is kept free of charge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,106 ✭✭✭SpannerMonkey

if you browse the net using Google Chrome there is an ad on called adblocker that blocks all those ads on youtube and else where , well worth getting , best thing i have got in a while

its what keeps youtube free. the amount of free entertainment I've watches over the years makes up for it by a long shot !

The adverts aren't a problem for me. The high volume level of those adverts is.

I have these YouTube ads blocked, as well as the banner which appears in the video. When advertising starts restricting what I'm doing, then I block it. If it's just on the page then I don't care at all.

Ads? Where we're going, you won't see any ads <updates adblock>

I'm surprised that the advertisers think that having their ads up really loud are going to in any way encourage people to purchase their product.

While I use AdBlock myself I totally understand where he's coming from myself.

I don't think he has to worry about significant portions of the internet using it though as the overwhelming majority of those using the internet have neither an idea that such a tool exists nor how to obtain it, nor will they.

In fact, the presence of ads shows just how well they work on the average person.

So chill out, he may, as it'll never become the problem of the proportions that he's talking about.

If sites had stayed using non-intrusive ads their wouldn't have been a need for adblock. I turn it off on any site I use that doesn't shove ads in my face with I access it. Boards.ie for eg.

You're not giving people enough credit.

The number of people downloading all their media for free is hovering around/has passed 50%. (some reports say 57% but they're Industry backed so f-them)

Jumping on the old IE hate bandwagon I see. I doubt you have tried them but IE10 and 9 are quite capable browsers and are a major step up from the previous versions.

Adblock Plus (Beta) 1.2 helps. :)
Extensions are available for Chrome and Firefox - not sure about Explorer.

    Or this!
(VERY fast too - even than Chrome!)
Maxthon 3 comes with a browser engine that draws web pages 200% faster than Google Chrome.

The moment youtube becomes pay-to-use it will start dying. It would take a year or two because of its size but it would happen.

They know this so it will always remain free. It's advertising potential far outweighs any subscription fee potential.

I don't mind ads. So long as they are not in my face and interfering with my browsing experience.

Agreed. I'm not an IE user anymore. Despite that I couldn't care what browser someone uses, once they don't shove it in my face.

VLC has developed a way to automatically control the parts in movies where you turn the TV up to 100 to hear what someone is saying and then have your speakers blown by the action scene that follows.

    That'll have to do ya.:p
