Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Theme is Castles - big, small, inside, outside - you choose!

    The rules:

-Photos must be posted within 2 weeks of the day the task was set– so the closing time/date is 16.00pm on Sunday July 15th 2012.
    -No old photos.
-Only photos taken with this task in mind qualify, therefore, the photo must be taken after 16.00pm on Sunday July 1st 2012 (so if you've left Charleville - tough luck)
-Photos must be on the given task.
-ONE photo per post. But submit as many posts as you like.
-Stretch yourself – there is no limitation to what you can do to produce the image.
-The next task/subject is to be chosen by the person who has the most thanks after their post at the closing date/time (the post must include a photo).

It's crazy that this issue is now raised 12 days after Nebezpeci Mys posted the shot!

Why did you not raise it before the competition ended?

Anyway it may just be the camera time was off by a couple of hours-

It was raised by Adrian_Sadlier very soon after it was posted
the thread was cleaned up a few days ago and that entry should have been removed but it wasn't!

It was taken on the Boards Charleville outing that Adrian mentioned when he set the challenge!

Keps, the issue was raised straight away - somehow all the posts got removed from the thread though; not sure by whom or why.

I obviously didn't pay much attention to the time restrictions, so it was my bad...:o

    Nebezpeci Mys,

Can you do me a big favour?

Although your shot was taken before the deadline (devious, amn't I) it is the best shot (by popular acclamation)!

Will you do me the honour (and save the pain of a vodka sozzled brain) by picking the next challenge - your shot is way better than mine!

    Adrian

I think Adrian's offer is a very fair one - while not conceding the necessity to stick to the guidelines

Looking forward to the Next challenge

    :)

Maybe we need to just follow the set rules on the next topic then! Previous winners were also off topic if I recall. Eg orange flowers for a red challenge and a photo with the main subject obviously photoshopped to make it suit!! Lollszers as they say.

Exactly - If posters could take some time to read the rules again. :

    excerpt :
Your entry must come from a single photograph. You may not post-process your entry from or to include elements of multiple images, multiple exposures, clip art, computer-rendered images, or elements from other photographs, and other similar items
Any modification done inside a digital camera itself is considered acceptable for challenge submission.

All entries must included the following:-
    A) Location picture is taken.
    B) Camera settings if able.
    D) Camera Make and model
Basic edits in a art package of your choice to include:
    Sharpness/ soften
    Brightness/ contrast
    Cropping
minor cloning to remove dust and unwanted elements (must be very minor)
No filters or any external graphic elements on picture

I'm quite new to this assignment so forgive me if the question is stupid.

At the start of the post it says "Stretch yourself – there is no limitation to what you can do to produce the image." does that not supersede the other rules about basic edits ? as I used a photoshop filter on my castle picture

what rule about 'basic edits' are you referring to?

there are no limits on this challenge thread

EDITED = Oh I see the other 'general rules' applying to photo challenges- but notice that these were last edited in 2005 -while this series of challenges was only launched in 2009 by SNarah - in an effort to get away from the 'strict competition' element that had applied to earlier versions

The general consensus on this series of challenges is that there is no restriction to the post editing work you do.

Does anybody know if anyone has agreed to set a new challenge?

Thanks for letting me know Keps, I thought was breaking the rules as allthedoyles posted some quotes from the old rules in the page before this

Now, where's that new challenge whomever is choosing it ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,324 ✭✭✭keps

My recolliction id that the phrase

-Stretch yourself – there is no limitation to what you can do to produce the image

which appears on post 1 of each challenge was added following a wide-ranging debate on the issue held on a separate thread some 18 months ago or so.

I think that means "Think outside the box"
