Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Had a frustrating time today when a friend called me and asked me to remove her from promotional videos for an event that we are running. I had spent hours putting together this stuff and getting it up on youtube and when I had been videoing it I had said it was for facebook and to promote the event. She didn't flag up any problems....until today.

She says even though she is not on facebook she didnt mind it going up there but because of music I had used I could only upload them to facebook via youtube and didnt think this would be an issue. Apparently it is and she was very annoyed at me, but I had thought since I was given the go ahead for fb there wasnt a problem.

I personally don't give a dam where I pop up on the internet as long as its not pornographic!

How do others feel about things like this?

I don't share every moment of my life with Facebook but apart from that I'm fairly relaxed with regards to where pictures of me appear, so long as they're decent pics anyway, am fairly open about my life to those I trust, etc.

You can change the video privacy on youtube, so that you'd need the exact link to watch the video... maybe that'd but your friend at ease.

Not very, I'm on the internet after all!

Being private and using social media are not compatible.

I'm not overly private, I just don't put every detail of my life on the internet.

Nothing annoys me more than seeing a status on fb saying "I want chips" or something equally trivial.

People who over-share their personal life do my head in. The internet is not your own personal diary

There is a world of people out there who not live their lives through the internet.

Hey keep your (disco)beak(er) out of it boy!! :D

Felt bad that she was upset and also felt annoyed that had to remove my work but good enough for me for assuming it would be ok.

As she said, I am not expected to know how her head works!

Just curious if others feel like that!

I'd probably have the same position as her. Facebook videos are going to be seen by people with a specific interest in the page they're on, and not really anyone else. I'd feel a lot more exposed on youtube. If I agreed to be in a video on the understanding it would be on facebook, and discovered I was up on youtube, I would be pretty bothered.

I'm private to the point of paranoia but then I think you can't expect any privacy whatsoever if you interact online. You have to work on the assumption that every single status update, post, seemingly private email and photo is there for the public to see. I think your mate is perfectly within her rights to say it to you although she should have had the courtesy to say it to you before you started your editing!

Put the video on unlisted and tell her to try search for it.

    Too late. Deleted it all.

2 videos. Both of them I worked on until almost 4 in the morning on Tues nite and last nite. :-(

I'm pretty private ye, people have described me as such before. I wouldn't air my dirty laundry in public, I can't stand people that have to run straight to their family/friends after having a little argument with their bf/gf, it's not healthy, stuff like that is between the people involved, that's my opinion anyway.

She musn't have been that gorgeous if she didn't want the world to see her.

Next time tell her to spend a few hours fixing herself up and she'll be fine with being on YT then.

Or she just doesn't want people seeing on her on YT.

That's the trouble with U-tube and FB people can re-use it .I put nothing at all out anywhere and some false tracks from time to time .My phones have nothing on them either .What goes out can be like feathers on a stormy night and you can't undo it . I have loads to give but i give nothing at all .

Yes, I don't have a Facebook account and I don't let my friends put any pictures that I'm in up on Facebook, it's just not something that I would be comfortable with.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,736 ✭✭✭Irish Guitarist

I used to upload videos of myself playing guitar to YouTube and at one point had hundreds of them. I used to get messages every day telling me I was crap. I didn't care and kept uploading videos. One day someone who I didn't know made a video with my name in the title and left about twenty comments on it saying I should kill myself and comments about my personal life that were lies. I reported this to YouTube and was sure they would remove the comments. I got a reply back saying "sorry, we don't see any problem with these comments". I sent them another message telling them that the comments were libelous. I didn't get any reply back so I then closed my account. You could list reasons why you were deleting your account so I told them exactly what I thought of them and how they moderated the site.

I've become somewhat more private on the internet since then. I still upload videos of myself but to a site that is far less popular than YouTube. Obviously that's not being totally private. I don't mind a few people watching my videos but the idea of thousands of people looking at them doesn't appeal to me anymore.

I won't use my real surname on Facebook because I don't like the idea of certain people I know finding me. I have no interest in some moron that made my life a misery in school adding me and pretending we were best friends. If someone in my family wants to add me they can ask if I have a Facebook account.

Put them on a less popular video site. You can still promote your event by embedding them on a blog or something but they won't get anywhere near as many views as they would on YouTube.

I don't understand the part about the music to be honest. Do you mean your friend is a musician and you used music she recorded? Or do you mean you used someone elses music and she's worried about copyright problems?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,884 ✭✭✭Eve_Dublin

I'm not private, mainly because I believe no one really cares about what I get up to. If I see people have uploaded photos of themselves, I generally ignore them unless I'm very close to them or fancy their bum-bums, so I'd assume others are the same. Does everyone who posts their ****e on Facebook really think other people care? People are too busy worrying about themselves and how they're perceived by others to worry about you.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,297 ✭✭✭Jaxxy

To be honest OP I completely understand where your friend is coming from. It's her image you're using and if she has a problem with it you have to respect it. It is a shame though that you'd put so much work into it!

I wouldn't mind personally, as long as the content wasn't compromising. I'm not overly private but like a lot of people have said already, the Facebook over-share phenomenon is a pain in the hole sometimes.

I'm private enough on boards. No pictures of myself EVER going to be posted up for example. But then that's because I think it's best to keep yourself unidentifiable from people. My facebook account is also block to everyone except friends.
But then again I do post a lot of personal stuff too, but it's not going to land me in trouble ever with a job for example as there would be no easily definitive proof that it was me that has just publicly slated to entire company for example.

*If that's not making sense it's because I've taken a sleeping pill and it's starting to kick in, off to bed I goes:)
I wish the internet a goodnight!

Id be private enough I don,t use facebook or any social network site, I used facebook briefly for a short while then deleted my profile, while I used it briefly I never used any pictures of myself as the main profile picture, I honestly don,t get nor understand how some people put almost everything up on facebook for example photos of nights out, what they did for the day updating status, wedding album photos/posting where they plan to go for lunch or dinner that day- I don,t understand either how some people on facebook have very little set to private viewing for friends only and leave their facebook profile wide open for everyone and anyone to see and look at, I remember in one conversation with some friends, I asked them do you not realize having your facebook profile open to the general public anyone could be looking at your at data and could use it without you knowing, one reply was she never really thought about it and wasn,t bothered who might look at her open facebook profile- plus to add in todays social media people should realize having an open facebook account with everything on public viewing, employers can be looking up people online before Interviews and finding out info on interviewees and just see one little thing they mightn,t like and not hire the person for the job.
