Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. That's just a god awful opinion that has to be immediately disregarded when trying to come up with a way of getting fair and balanced seedings.

Just an unlucky draw for city (And everyone else in the group).. **** happens.. they've got a good enough squad to get out of it. Hopefully they don't crumble like they did last year. If any team in the group has reason to complain its Dortmund !

and then you could still have got Barca, Bayern and Milan and you still complain.

If your good enough to win CL then you should get out of Group. Simple.

I just think it would make for much better games to watch and it would mean different teams making the semi-finals rather than the usual few.
The idea of the Champions League is to have the 8 best teams reach the quarter finals, 4 in the semi finals etc. and so keep the best games for the final stages.

Your idea cheapens this concept for "good group games" and "different semi-finalists"? If this were to happen, teams would make the final stages unfairly. It is a stupid idea.

How would a team make the final stage unfairly? If a team is good enough they will make it as far as they possibly can.

Because if your idea goes ahead, ie. Barca Bayern United and Milan(all for example) are put in the one group, 2 teams that should be making the latter stages will be knocked out too early, being replaced by teams that haven't had to play 3 teams of that calibre.

The method that is there means the best teams are playing each other at the right times, and also make runs like APOEL and Monaco's even more impressive.

Sorry but if they SHOULD be making the latter stages, they will make the latter stages.

If the best 16 teams are all in 4 groups(for example), 8 teams that "should be" making the last 16, going by UEFA co-efficients, will not.
Seedings mean the best teams have earnt themselves an easier(on paper) route past the group stages.

Buzzing for the Champions League now. Tough group but sure that's the way it goes, and as Joleon Lescott says, it's a proper group of champions.

Madrid away up first, does not get much better than that in terms of stature. Bring it on!

Borussia Dortmund vs Ajax tonight. The police in Dortmund is on high alert, because Ajax supporters have some reputation. Both sets of supporters will be segregated all the way, for example the Dutch guys will only be allowed into one part of the city centre.

I don't know, it's football, nothing more. And I remember different occasions, where both sets of supporters had a party in the city centre before the match with music acts and food from both countries. No riots at all, but certain people in Germany seem to know better

Great stuff, Borussia Dortmund won the match, but it was some hard day's work, so I heard. Never mind, three points are three points.

Hopefully, all stays peaceful after the match, since there were 47 arrests before the match, so called 'fans' from the Netherlands smashing a subway train and causing trouble in the city centre :(

Barcelona weren't great for 60 odd minutes tonight. Pique was taken off very early on as he looked to have some discomfort in his right knee. Song played CB, distributed well but was a little reckless at times. Tello played a stormer in the second half as space seemed to just open up for him time and time again. He scored the opener and then provided a fantastic assist for Messi to draw level after some poor defending and Romulo in. 3 points are three points and our European home record continues.

Didn't really see much else but having caught the end of the Chelsea game, Mikel and Terry look a little ragged atm. Neither are exactly playing well of late. Very slow in there approach and some times not up to the standards the rest of the team are setting.

was straight outta the top drawer! was excellent, such a powerful shot, and an even better save.

    Milans passing has been poor

    Hulk scores for zenit!

Eriksen actually cost circa €1 million from Odense.

Pedantry aside, it's a hell of achievement to beat a team like City (whose starting line up reportedly set them back approximately €200 million) with such a meagre outlay on playing staff.

Shaktar score controversial goal, player kicks it back to goalie for fair play reasons but Adiriano gets on the end of it and rounds the keeper to score.

A lot of angry danish players, Njord just scored again tho so some justice.

    No.
Justice will be when they have a player down injured and the opposition play on and score. He knew what he had done, and none of his team mates congratulated him - then he tried to act surprised. Truly bad form. I know there is no actual rule, but its just players looking out for each other. They can exclude Shaktar from that arrangement now.

Malaga 2-0 up on Zenith already. I'm a big Pellegrini fan and he really has done a job at Malaga.

Theres a great piece up on UEFAs site, explaining the permutations.
While 13 of the places in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 are filled, including all four Spanish entrants, the remaining three remain up for grabs with holders Chelsea FC among the six teams in contention in the final group games on 4 and 5 December.

First place in four groups, with seeding in the round of 16 draw, will also be decided then as will the identities of five of the eight teams that will transfer to the UEFA Europa League round of 32 by finishing third. UEFA.com talks you through the permutations.

The round of 16 draw will be held in Nyon at 11.30CET on Thursday 20 December. The group winners will be drawn against the group runners-up, though no team can play a club they met in the group stage or from their own association. The away teams will be at home in the first legs on 12/13/19/20 February and away in the second legs on 5/6/12/13 March.

    Season calendar

The permutations below are for information only; the official calculations will be made by UEFA after the games finish according to article 7.06 of the Regulations of the UEFA Champions League.

Qualified for the last 16: FC Porto, Paris Saint-Germain FC, FC Schalke 04, Arsenal FC, Málaga CF*, AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund*, Real Madrid CF, FC Shakhtar Dontesk, FC Bayern München, Valencia CF, FC Barcelona*, Manchester United FC*

    *group winners

Can still qualify: Juventus or Chelsea FC; SL Benfica or Celtic FC; Galatasaray AŞ or CFR 1907 Cluj (in each case the unsuccessful club will transfer to the UEFA Europa League)

Confirmed in the UEFA Europa League: FC Dynamo Kyiv, Olympiacos FC, FC BATE Borisov

Can qualify for UEFA Europa League: FC Zenit St Petersburg or RSC Anderlecht; AFC Ajax or Manchester City FC (in each case the unsuccessful club will be eliminated from Europe)

Eliminated from Europe: GNK Dinamo Zagreb, Montpellier Hérault SC, FC Nordsjælland, FC Spartak Moskva, LOSC Lille, SC Braga

    Tuesday 4 December

    Group A

    Paris Saint-Germain FC (12pts) v FC Porto (13), GNK Dinamo Zagreb (0) v FC Dynamo Kyiv (4)

    • Porto have qualified with the highest points tally of any team after five games and will clinch first place with a win or a draw in Paris.

    • PSG are also through but must beat Porto to finish top.

    • Dynamo will transfer to the UEFA Europa League.

    • Dinamo are out of Europe.

    Group B

    Olympiacos FC (6pts) v Arsenal FC (10), Montpellier Hérault SC (1) v FC Schalke 04 (11)

    • Schalke are through and will win the group if they get three points in France or if Arsenal are denied victory in Greece due to their head-to-head superiority over the English club.

    • Arsenal have progressed from their group for the 13th year running but to end in first place must win at Olympiacos and hope Schalke do not beat Montpellier.

    • Olympiacos will transfer to the UEFA Europa League.

    • Montpellier are out of Europe.

    Group C

Málaga CF (11pts) v RSC Anderlecht (4), AC Milan (8) v FC Zenit St Petersburg (4)

    • Málaga have qualified as group winners due to their head-to-head superiority over Milan.

    • Milan are through as runners-up.

    • Zenit lie third on goal difference as they are level on head-to-head with Anderlecht, with whom they are competing for a UEFA Europa League berth. If the two matches in the group end with a draw, Zenit will qualify for the UEFA Europa League due to the superior goal difference from all group matches played.

    • Anderlecht will reach the UEFA Europa League if they pick up more points than Zenit or overturn their goal difference deficit (see Article 7.06 of the Regulations)

    Group D

Borussia Dortmund (11pts) v Manchester City FC (3), Real Madrid CF (8) v AFC Ajax (4)

    • Dortmund have qualified as group winners due to their head-to-head superiority over Madrid.

    • Madrid are through as runners-up, the 16th year in a row they have made it out of their group.

    • Ajax will qualify for the UEFA Europa League, of which they host the final, if they win in Madrid or if Manchester City fail to gain victory at Dortmund due to the Dutch side's head-to-head superiority over the English club.

    • Manchester City will qualify for the UEFA Europa League if they win in Dortmund and Ajax fail to gain victory.

    Heres the link.
