Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

When we do actually get a dry day a walk cannot even be enjoyed without these things buzzing around your head. You try to hit them and back they come for more. Anyone else hate these nasty buggers?

Yeah they do my head in!

On a similar note, has anybody else noticed the amount of dead bees lying on the ground this year?? It's really strange and there's loads of them around my area.

Had to walk through a huge swarm of midges a few minutes ago. I thought I was going to drown :[

The worst is when those big fat flies get in the house.
I always have to close my blinds so the neighbours don't see me running around the room, swinging a cushion around and cursing.

The amount of fúcking blue bottles and fruit flies everywhere this year is driving me mental. Every day I can expect at least 2 or 3 of the fúckers to be swarming around the house, buzzing around everywhere, GRR.

Awaiting the onset of wasps in August now.

So long as mosquitos keep their heads down here I'm happy.

And when you open the window to try let them out they don't want to know

I don't bother even trying to get them out anymore. If I can get it into another room, that'll do.
The next day I'll find the fly's corpse on the floor. :(

There is no such thing as an Irish summer, all we get is the odd few days nice weather throughout the summer. The midges then come out to ruin it when it is sunny.

The rain is warmer during Irish summer compared to the rain in Irish winter.......

Killed 5 blue flies this afternoon and escorted 2 others from the building. When I say killed I mean I whacked then then squished them to confirm they were dead.

One lost half his body and was still crawling when I put him out of his misery. Another was oozing yellow puss but still had a fair bit of life in him.

I have learnt that it's best to use reflexes to whack them rather than line up a target or wait for them to move into a good position. Much better success rate.

Best invention ever, though frying fly smells horrible!

I went for a walk down by the river yesterday and literally had over a hundred flies swarm around my head. If anyone saw me waving my arms to beat them away i would be in the mental by now

I went for a walk a few hours ago with the best of intentions. I thought I would clear my head, listen to some music and relax a bit. I was utterly swarmed. My arms flailing about over my head. Slapped the crap out of myself. As soon as I got back there was a massive deluge of rain. The joys of the west.

Did someone mention mosquitoes? I thought I'd escaped from those mofos. :(

On a positive note, at least there aren't any flying cockroaches.

I always considered myself king amongst paupers, lord of the flies. What a deluded, little man I'm like that, one fly that never leaves. No matter how wide you leave the window open

Spend summer in South America being eaten alive by little mosquito bastards and then see if the odd fly is really all that bad.

I can't help wondering where the posters in this thread are based given that they keep encountering so many flies. I cycled through a small swarm of adolescent (you could tell by the way they were hanging about at the street corner) flies the last day, and I've seen one fly in the house and pucks of months, but other than that it's been a fairly insect-free summer..

Hate bluebottles. Dirty loud buzzy blue bastards.

Can't say I've seen many flies about this summer, a few moths but that's it

    Don't forget the giant moths.

Saw one a few nights ago and it wasn't far off the size of a small bird.
