Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If love is more powerful than hate, why is it that those who are loving/positive people feel threatened by negativity? Surely if positivity is stronger it doesnt need to avoid negativity.

    Its simple math really.

    For example +1-1=0

but +2-4= -2 therefore negatively wins out.

For example Hitler was at least - 100 in negativity and the positivity wasn't enough to out weigh this at the start.
But along came the Russians who were a -1 and and the following equation took place.
    -1(-100) = 100

    Therefore ending world war 2.

    Thank you.

I can answer that with a question:

What is love, when you don't hurt me, when you don't hurt me, no more?

Love makes us make more of us, and evil makes us destroy each other. Since there seem to be a lot of us, I'd suggest love is doing OK.

There are such things as positive hate and negative love OP. The plot thickens.

Ah but a double negative equals a positive.

    Eg -1(-1) = 1

But for positive hate the result is negative.

    1(-1) = -1

hmmm interesting , results are inconclusive.

My conclusion is that further research is required

I am not threatened philosophically by hate and negativity. I do realise that there is more to life than my mind though. That's why I would feel threatened by negativity and hate.

Just because there's hate in the world doesn't make me any less of a good person. And I do believe everyone would be good if given the right opportunities. But I need to eat and get the bus to work, and that's where hate can have an effect.

    they're not and it doesn't.

anyway both are born of fear.

    love, fear of being alone/dead.

hate, fear of being alone/ dead.

but love seems to settle the tummy that bit more AND results in less death - usually.

Ah shure it's crazy - but that's how it goes, millions of people living as foes. Maybe, it's not to late to learn how to love, and forget how to hate

Love is generally easier to tolerate and causes the release of endorphins and bonding hormones - 'healthy' love anyway.

Hate is a very strong emotion, it is associated with angerness, bitterness, resentment, the desire for revenge etc.

Hate usually requires more effort and has a hugely negative impact on our physical, psychological and emotional well being. It can be destructive and lead to violence.

So, I'd say hate is a much stronger emotion and it's a pity that so many people let the person they hate continue to have that hold over them. Better to build a bridge and all that.......

Now, where did I leave my shovel and bag of lime?

Its more pain and pleasure than love and hate.

People will do more to avoid pain than they'll to gain pleasure.

It's not feeling threatened by negativity, it's being bored by it.

Love is not stronger than hate. It takes less effort to hate and is easier.
How many "what's your pet love" threads have you seen in AH? ;)

No Teddy it's OK...you are not alone...since I lost my job I have been hitting the herbs, so far Basil is working, Parsley is a waste of time and I am going to try coriander tonight:-)

Love and hate are two sides of the same coin, to hate something it must matter to you deeply and very often the oul lurve shifts to hate...

I hate the ad that goes 'buy the room, get the tv'.

1: It doesn't matter to me
2: If it does turn to lurve, I would be shaken to my core.

It might be worth some time to take a look at Oliver Burkemans new book The Antidote. It looks at negativity as a positive philosophy.
