Catbird won't leave!

My husband went to work yesterday, and when he opened the door to the garage at his office, a grey bird flew in and refuses to leave. His assistant thinks it's a catbird. They tried to put him out, but he flies back into the garage... follows them around and allows them to pet him/her. What to do?? This bird is very tame.

    catbird??

Is it a native wild bird to is it a parrot of some kind? If it's a parrot or other exotic bird then it's best to catch it and hand it over to a reliable rescue.

No, it's not a parrot. It's a wild bird, and we believe it to be a catbird. Grey with black cap.

A hooded crow, or are you not in Ireland? I've never heard of a catbird.

If it's that tame it's probably an escaped pet.

Do what you'd do anywhere, regardless of your continent - call around the local vets to see if any of them recognise who owns the bird (seeing as you say it's very tame). Call your local animal control and see if they can catch it for you. Take photographs and make small posters of the bird and display them in your area - grocery store boards and so on.

If it's someone's escaped pet it may be from the immediate area so you could just ignore it and see if it'll find its way home. Catbirds eat insects and fruit and need fresh water so if it won't go away you could see if you can find a source of food and water and leave them out for it (up high, somewhere that it cannot be ambushed by cats). Check out your local pet store for species appropriate food.
